My story

[p]Hi, [/p][p]My name is Andy. I am running the 2020 London Marathon as a blind runner with my guide runner Harriet. [/p][p]I am running to raise money for the Lion Swimming Club where both myself and my wife Lucy, who is also registered blind regularly swim. We take our 2 year old daughter Evie along to the swimming sessions as well, which she loves. We feel more comfortable taking Evie to these sessions as we know we’ll receive the help and support we need.[/p][p]The Lion Swimming Club offers swimming sessions four times a week as well as regular hydro pool sessions, for people with a permanent physical, learning, mental or sensory disability. There is no age limit. The club welcomes anyone between 0-99 years.[/p][p]The Lion Swimming Club was founded in 1959 and it has been solely run by volunteers since then (61 years). All the sessions are attended by a volunteer helper who is there to assist the members during the sessions. The helpers assist Lucy, Evie and I to find our way around the pool area and to and from the changing room. Our fellow members allow us to swim next to the wall at our sessions which is our way of navigating whilst in the pool. [/p][p]The Club also arranges social events which is just as important as the swimming because this enables members to get out and meet with others with disabilities.[/p][p]Running the London Marathon for my swimming club is an honour and a privilege and allows me to give back to the club.[/p][p]Your generosity is very much appreciated![/p][p] [/p][p]Kind regards,[/p][p]Andy[/p][p] [/p][p][br][/p]
