My story

[p]In February 2018 my 16 year old younger brother was diagnosed with Stage 2A Hodgkin's Lymphoma, completely changing the dynamic of his life. Being in his penultimate year of school, he was working towards his Scottish Highers, the most important exams he'd sit at school, whilst running his own business, playing a considerable amount of sport and engaging in loads of social activities. [/p][p]To combat this illness he underwent 6 months of chemotherapy from March 9th to August 17th 2018. This was the worst time of his life in every aspect but he pushed through and still continued with life as normal achieving things I didn't think he could. Sadly, he missed out on considerable amounts of school, wasn't able to play any sport and was bed bound every weekend. However, charities like Children with Cancer UK helped him push through and gave him meaningful support.[/p][p]He was lucky enough to have a good response to the chemotherapy and on September 7th 2018 was put in remission. However, he was one of the lucky ones. Every day 12 families in the UK receive the devastating news that their child has cancer and not all of them have the same fortune. Through funding vital specialist research, Children with Cancer UK has done everything in its power to give these children the best chance to survive. [/p][p]I'm running the London Marathon to not only support this worthy cause but also for my brother. He is still unable to do the levels of physical activity he was previously and as such I want to represent him and help make a difference where I have not previously, since I wasn't there when he needed me most. I'm incredibly proud of him and he owes a lot to charities like this. [/p][p]With your support Children with Cancer UK can fund over 60 research projects across the UK accelerating breakthroughs to help drive up childhood cancer survival rates and find kinder, more effective treatments to reduce long-term side effects. This ground breaking research saves children's lives and would otherwise go unfunded. [/p][p]Knowing treatment can be especially challenging for family life, Children with Cancer UK also helps fund patient family accommodation near hospitals so families can stay together during their children's treatment. We also organise unforgettable days out for children and their families to create memories that will never be lost. [/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]Anish xx[/p]
