My story

[p][span=text-decoration: underline;]A message from Ann:[/span][/p][p]Having lost a brother being cared for in a hospice, I must tell you why I totally believe in them.[/p][p]Knowing you are going to die, trying to cope with at times, uncontrollable pain is a very dark place to be and to watch someone be. Hospices offer a light. Suddenly pain can be controlled and is no longer part of the equation. Families as well as the person you are about to loose, feel cared for and supported at such a sad time. The loving environment and caring staff restored dignity and allowed us to laugh, cry, talk and treasure these last moments together. [/p][p]That was a bit deep but it helps people to understand why hospices are so important. I can still feel the love that surrounded us then whenever I think about it. [/p][p]Why am I bothering to do it?!?![/p][p]I lost so many family members relavtiely young, including my husband. I carried on raising my family on my own, but surrounded by a group of very special people. I feel so appreciative of what I do have in life. The most caring fantastic family and friends it is possible to have. Thank you all. [/p][p]The year of the Peru trek I will reach 60. My brother Chris never walked, so I will use my legs to give back a little of the love that has been awarded to me. Thank you to everyone who cares and sponsors. [/p][p]Love Ann x[/p][p][/p][p][span=text-decoration: underline;]A message from Sharon:[/span][/p][p]1999 was the year that changed my life, and all our lives as a family. My older sister Laurel's husband was diagnosed with lung cancer on Valentines Day. He died just 12 weeks later at the age of 40. Due to the nature of Mark's illness he spent most of that time in a hospice, this was my first ever encounter with one or even knowing that they existed. That 6 weeks Mark and all of us were made to feel that this was our second home and Mark felt safe and no longer afraid of what the future held. Unfortuantley this was not the last encounter as my sister Laurel was then diagnosed just a year later with breast cancer and although she survived 10 years, the hospice was a great support. Laurel and Mark left behind their only daughter, Shaunna. [/p][p]Fast forward to 2014 and tradgedy strikes again and my little sister Donna is diagnosed with terminal cancer, she also spent 6 weeks in a hospice and the care and support she and our family experienced was amazing and she died peacefully without pain. [/p][p]I understand that my story is quite unusual in terms of family tradgedy but unfortuantley not as rare as one might think. I also hope you never have to experience the devestation of losing a loved one. But hospices provide the care and support and much more for all included, this is why fundraising is so important to myself. Thanks for taking the time to read our stories and thank you for your support and donations.[/p][p]Love Sharon x[/p]
