My story

[p]2 years ago, I did a world record attempt running a half marathon with my 7 month old Edward in a buggy to raise money for Bowel & Cancer Research. At the time, Dad was facing another battle with bowel cancer having discovered that the cancer had returned in December 2015. He lost that battle on the 13th January this year. As I was sitting by his bedside at the Countess Mountbatten Hospice in his last few days, whilst trying to make conversation but unsure how much of the time he could hear me, I told him I would have another attempt, this time with a double buggy and his youngest grandchild, Jessica, aged 6 months, who he got to know very well in their brief time together as she accompanied me at hospice in his last few weeks of life. He didn't open his eyes, but it did bring a brief smile to his face. [/p][p]When I did the London marathon in 2016, there were so many people around me running in memory of someone. We still had hope that Dad would beat his illness and I was determined that I would never run in memory of him as he was very much here and involved in my fundraising. [/p][p]It is impossible to believe that he is no longer here, but I told him I would, and so I'm going to run in his memory this weekend at Dorney Lake where I have spent so many hours rowing in the past and he has watched me race. I don't think it will be record breaking, and I also don't feel able to actively fund raise and I would not want to ask again of his many friends who were so generous in supporting my previous effort, but I have created this page so that the charity can use it in the slight chance that I do manage to break the current record of 1:39. [/p][p]Here is the link to my 2015 fundraising blog with more details about Dad's journey with cancer: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-portal/fundraiserPage?pageId=645777[/p][p][br][/p][p]Update: 1st May 2018[/p][p]I think the double buggy half marathon was not meant to be. The first attempt on the 17th March got snowed off (freezing temperatures, the 'mini beast from the East' weekend), then a second attempt on the 22nd April was a heat wave which meant we had to abandon the race after 5km as Edward kept taking the hood off the buggy and throwing his and Jessica's hats out. He had a great time clapping and pointing at the other runners, but decided he'd rather be running than a passenger![/p][p][br][/p]
