My story

[p]HI,[/p][p]I’m Anne, a 5ft tall 76 year old woman and I’m going to run the London Marathon in October. I’ll be raising money for PARKINSON’S UK with every stride.[/p][p]Hopefully, I’ll also be using this opportunity to raise the awareness in both the public and the healthcare sector, of the need for a proper and realistic care plan for Parkinson sufferers who find themselves in hospital for reasons not connected to their Parkinson’s.[/p][p]My late husband was admitted to hospital for a heart operation that went very well indeed. However, treatment for his Parkinson’s by cardiac specialists was not a good idea. Whilst his heart recovered very well, his Parkinson’s condition went into massive decline as a result of Parkinson medication and care errors. In days his condition became critical, and he arrested. Although resuscitated he was left in a vegetative state for 2 years and 5 months. This would be a very unlikely outcome had he had the benefit of a Parkinson’s specialist included in his care team.[/p][p]I believe that for whatever reason a Parkinson sufferer is in hospital, a care plan should be developed with input by the Parkinson’s specialists, and they should be included as a part of the care team.[/p][p]5 years on I’m leaving the anger and negativity behind and replacing it with positivity, action and hopefully change. A marathon is a tough challenge for a soon to be 77year old little woman, but my motivation is to help drive change in the hospital care of Parkinson patients and hopefully by achieving this also have closure after the tragic death of my husband Keith[/p][p]THANK YOU for reading my story. With your support, Parkinson’s UK can make these changes a reality[/p][p][br][/p][p]i would just like to tell you all a little of what’s been going on this last few months as the marathon now is almost upon me Well my injury did not repair fully to the end of August and that meant that my training became the very opposite of what marathon training is supposed to be. In a minimum of a 16 week programme where you bring your training mileage up gradually. Unfortunately I didn’t have the luxury of time so I have fast tracked and prayed that my past experience will get me through from a 10k race to a half marathon to a 16.5 mile training run on the canal has been the mainstay of my time and miles in legs in the last 6 weeks . You can trust me that on Sunday I will be giving my all to complete this Marathon [/p][p]Id like to thank all the people who have supported me in this quest to raise awareness in Parkinson’s disease and that in time Keith’s untimely death will not have been in vain.If love and support was enough to get to the finish line I’d be there in record time. It is enough however that you believe in me and I’m going to prove you RIGHT.[/p][p]you will see above a photo one receiving my media at Wilmslow half marathon also the lovely photo of me in runners World [/p][p][br][/p][p]I did against all odds considering my training in the end because of almost 4 months of injury didn’t take off until 6 weeks ago. My Keith was with me every step of the way and family too I feel blessed [/p][p]My fundraising has passed the magical 2,000 already and I’m so appreciative of each and everyone’s support [/p]
