My story

[p]In just under two weeks I will be attempting to run the Brighton Marathon, as I promised my sister Phil, before she sadly passed away last year from Cardiac Amyloidosis. [/p][p]Those that know me will know that only two years ago I struggled to run 5k, but with the help of my amazing club Beginners2runners, and the group of supportive and brilliant friends I have made there, I found myself signing up for a 10k...then another 10k...then a half marathon...and now, my biggest challenge of all, a marathon. [/p][p]My amazing sister Phil Keeling was diagnosed with Cardiac Amyloidosis in August 2017 and after 11 months of fighting she sadly passed away. Seeing how brave and determined she was during this time is what has given me the strength and courage to sign up and give it a go. [/p][p]I am hoping to raise money for Team Ben Hammond, an amazing charity who fundraise for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). Through their fundraising they have set up screenings for young people in our local area, in memory of their son Ben who sadly died from undiagnosed heart disease. Because of these screenings, anyone aged 14-35 can have a free heart screening scan which could detect any abnormalities and help to reduce the risk of sudden death through undiagnosed cardiac disease. If this service had been available sooner, then it may have saved the life of Henry Goldstein, the brother of Sophie, who is very special to me. Henry tragically died aged 26 from undiagnosed heart disease in 2013 and I have seen firsthand the heartbreak that this causes. [/p][p]Any donations however small will be hugely appreciated and knowing that I could help save a life is what will help me make it round the 26.2 miles. [/p][p]Thank you. [/p][p]Anne x [/p]
