My story

[p]I am running the London Marathon in April to raise funds for The Nottingham Hospice.[/p][p]My father passed away in April 2019 four weeks after being diagnosed from lung cancer which was a huge shock. In his last week, he was unable to get upstairs but did not want to be in hospital so slept downstairs. Both mum and myself were with him, sleeping downstairs too although hardly sleeping and feeling exhausted. Someone said that a night service was available from The Nottingham Hospice where a healthcare assistant came from 10pm to 7am which meant we could try and catch up on our sleep in a proper bed knowing that there was a professional with dad that would look after him but let us know if there were any changes in his condition. This was a new service introduced in Nov 2018 and it was a great help to us in his last week. The ladies that came were very friendly and professional. I would like to raise funds for anyone that may need support from the hospice in their last days of life and especially if they need this invaluable night service.[/p][p]I have been running for about the last 7 years, the last two and half years being a member of Notts Womens Runners who are very supportive, whether it being running related or whatever incidents are happening in your life. Three of my club friends are also running this for their own charities and I know with their support we will conquer this. I am not a fast runner but run for my mental health and it certainly helps. I know it won't be an easy task as it not just a case of running but includes different sorts of training - hill training, fartleks, interval, cross training along with strengthening exercises to avoid injury plus keeping hydrated and eating properly. It will be difficult as over the last year, i have had three different injuries and only just recovered from the last one.[/p][p]It has been a dream of mine to run the London marathon after being rejected for the main ballot the last six years. My dad was very proud of me when i'd ran previous half marathons fundraising for other charities although he did say i was crazy wanting to run that many miles! Even if i never run again, it will make me very happy knowing i've ran this marathon and raised vital funds for this charity.[/p][p]I have since found out that i am the only person in Nottingham representing this charity and it will be the first time in five years that anyone has taken part as there is a ballot process for charities also. I feel very proud and priviliged to be running this for them.[/p]
