My story

[p]I am 73 years old and by the time I start my sponsored photo shoot I will have had another birthday.[/p][p]I am travelling to Bergen in Norway and then across to Oslo before taking a flight to Svalbard just 600 miles from the North Pole.[/p][p]I first went to Norway on a youth cruise in my early twenties and immediately was hooked on the country.[/p][p]I have since returned on four different occasions, on honeymoon, two trips on the Hurtigruten ship "Lofoten" and most recently to Tromso to go whale watching and see the Northern Lights.[/p][p]Photography is my hobby and I particularly like wildlife and land/seascape images.[/p][p]I am seeking sponsorship for the Children's Hospice South West. [/p][p]I have been to the Little Harbour Hospice and seen the absolutely amazing way in which the children and their families are cared for.[/p][p]As a child I spent two and a half years in the City Hospital in Truro Cornwall, and a further two and a half years wearing a calliper. I have always been grateful for the treatment I received and although it was a long time, my problem (a soft bone in my hip) bears no comparison to the medical conditions the children at the hospice have to endure, and, as my age reveals, was not a life threatening condition.[/p][p]Having booked my trip to Svalbard I was prompted by a Sponsored Bike Ride, undertaken by Marcus Trescothick, to begin thinking if there was some way in which could support the hospices..[/p][p]Owing to a degree of arthritis, most physical activities, such as cycling or hiking are now too difficult for me to get involved in.[/p][p]I began thinking if there would be something else I could do. The result is to combine my love of photography, Norway and wild life and do a photo shoot.[/p][p]There are approximately 42 different species of birds, mammals, seals and Whales to be found in Svalbard in summer. I am seeking sponsorship for each different species I can photograph. I am quite sure that I will not be able to photograph every one but through various excursions offered by the local tourist trip operators I am hoping that I may at least get a little more than half.[/p][p]I am currently building a website and hoping to write a blog of my activities.[/p][p]If you have never visited the CHSW website I am sure you will be amazed by the work they do.[/p][p]Thanking you in anticipation for your support.[/p][p]Arthur Roberts[/p][p][br][/p]
