My story

[p]On the 3rd August 2019, Team Ashby will be joining the 'Walk with the Baron 2 - Revenge of the blisters' to raise awareness for acquired brain injury and raise money for Ashby ward. This involves walking, running or cycling 26 miles (or however much you can manage). Staff from Ashby Ward will be meeting at The Plough on Newark Road at 10:00am and setting off together to start this 26 mile event! Joining the staff will be ex patients of Ashby Ward and their relatives, as well as the baron himself Andy.[/p][p][br][/p][p]In December 1994 whilst working in Leipzig, Germany Andy had an accident whilst working on a building site. Andy suffered a traumatic brain injury, leaving him partially sighted, with weakness and coordination issues on his entire left side. Chronic fatigue and headaches became normal for Andy, and the brain injury also caused epilepsy to develop. Andy's initial generalised seizures are controlled however he still suffers from frequent partial seizures. After spending 9 weeks in a German hospital Andy returned to Lincoln and spent three days on Ashby rehab ward in its old location in St George's hospital. Andy then spent a year as an outpatient in Ashby's care until his eventual discharge. Andy set up the 'Walk with the Baron' and will be joining team Ashby to raise some money and increase awareness of acquired brain injury.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Ashby Ward is an 18-bedded unit providing rehabilitation to patients with long-term neurological conditions as well as those who have traumatic/acquired brain injuries and need complex rehabilitation.[/p]
