My story

[p]In December I'm embarking on an epic 2700KM journey across India in a Rickshaw so that we can help deaf children to hear again.[/p][p]There will be 90 of us in 30 rickshaws, travelling across numerous states so that we can try and raise £250,000 for a Cochlea hospital and school in India.[/p][p]Let's get one thing clear - EVERYONE OF US HAS PAID OUR OWN FLIGHTS AND ACCOMMODATION AND EVEN PAID FOR THE RICKSHAWS OURSELVES![/p][p]That's right, we've all paid our own way so that we can raise as much money as possible to help deaf children hear in Pune, India. It's taken a year of planing too![/p][p]https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/DeepakPathak1[/p][p]In Pune alone, 800 children are born deaf every year but the vast majority never receive the help they need. If these children can be fitted with hearing implants, then they will be able to hear sounds and to speak... so we will change their lives forever.[/p][p]Being deaf should not mean they can't get the care and help they need to live a normal life. So we are getting together to support a great project that will not only help these children hear sound but also teach these children how to interpret sounds so that they can communicate effectively too.[/p][p]Cochlea Pune for hearing and speech has been a growing charitable trust who specialise in supporting congenitally born deaf children from the age of 0 through to 6 years.[/p][p]Through early detection and intervention, the Cochlea team has become the trusted charity for mothers supporting their children. Starting with just one centre, one teacher and one student the centre has now spread its message and support across rural areas of Pune through to Goa.[/p][p]The charity now supports over 125 children to help them hear and speak with the assistance of over 35 teachers, hearing aids, providing speech therapy and most importantly through the specialist Swaranaad pre-school. Last year they admitted over 22 children to the pre-school which has continued to grow.[/p][p]With the rate of admission, the Cochlea team have run out of room and they need your support now.[/p][p]Sewa UK, with the support of 90 volunteers from the UK, America, Australia and India, are supporting Cochlea Pune to raise £150,000 to build a state of the art Swaranaad pre-school which will allow the Cochlea team to not only provide further support to current children but also allow the admission of more children[/p][p]Please give generously and help us to enable this great charity to change more young children's lives for the better.[/p][p]https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/DeepakPathak1[/p][p]Don't forget, the journey itself will be epic, so be sure to follow us at the following pages:[/p][p]https://www.facebook.com/rickshawrun2019sewauk/ (Will be updated most whilst in India)[/p][p]https://www.facebook.com/events/436717773633054/[/p][p]If you can help in any way, donations, awareness or fundraising ideas, please get in touch.[/p]
