Team story

[p]On 27th September our team of Black Country Triathletes members, Sam, Claire, Carolyn, Louise and Matt are hoping to stand on the start line of Outlaw X, ready to take on a 70.3 triathlon. The event is a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile cycle followed by a 13.1 mile run all starting and finishing at Thoresby Park in Nottinghamshire.[/p][p]We are supporting the charity Teenage Cancer Trust because at some of the worst moments of my life they provided support. When my son, Morgan, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia our whole world was shook upside down and when Morgan was placed in an induced coma and given a very slim chance of living our world was propelled into another dimension, the safe space that the kitchen on the young person's unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham was one of the facilities provided by the charity that had and will continue to have a much greater impact in the families of young people with cancer. The charity also fund specialist nurses who work in addition to the wonderful NHS nurses and facilities that mean a parent can stay at the hospital whilst your child is receiving the chemotherapy and other treatments required to treat cancer. [/p][p]This team is made up of some of the nicest most supportive members of my triathlon club who I am lucky to be able to call my friends. Together we are raising money and celebrating the journey of everything that getting to the start line of a 70.3 triathlon involves. From lockdown and swimming pools being closed to runs in the rain, learning to cycle solo again and facing the challenge of a first 70.3 with school aged children at home, runs where bodies hurt so much tears were cried to runs when the tears wouldn't stop thinking about everything my family has been through in the last 9 months, cycle rides where anxiety was so high hardly any sleep was possible the night before and long rides when bodies ran out of energy! Open water swimming in a new location, overcoming the fear of the open water environment and pool swimming at 6am. Our team have been through so much in training that making it to the start line not the finish line is the achievement! We do this because we enjoy the challenge and the way that swimming, cycling and running impact our lives in a positive way so much that it is an important part of our lives in so many ways.[/p][p]Triathlon and Teenage Cancer Trust have both given to me and my family in different ways so me and my team are combining the two to say thank you. [/p][p]If you choose to donate I also thank you as it means other families will also be supported when they need it most.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
