Team story

[p]Bearsden Martial Arts Club has been running classes in the area for over 30 years and normally trains twice a week. With the Coronavirus lockdown we've had to find alternative ways to train virtually and after several weeks of video conferences, BMAC's Virtual Lockdown Knockdown was born.[/p][p]On 26th May, we will be getting together on a video conference to try and do as many punches as possible in 30 minutes. We think together we can hit at least 50,000 punches.[/p][p]We are raising money for three charities that are helping people through the challenges created by Coronavirus. [/p][p]The NHS provides care for us all in this time of need and the staff are in the front line of the virus. [/p][p]The Trussell Trust provides food and support to people in East Dunbartonshire and throughout the country.[/p][p]The Star Project is an organisation in Renfrewshire helping people by delivering food, medicine and digital get-togethers to fight loneliness. [/p][p]Please help us support these worthwhile causes and together we can knock down the virus.[/p][p] [/p][p]17th May Update:[/p][p]Just who from the club has stepped up to the challenge? So far these 23 lovely people have signed up to punch for all their worth:[/p][p]Our lead instructor Hugh, Jamie, Ross, Eric, John, Morag, Diana, Rachel, Angela, Ben, Scott M, Julie, Scott B, Michael, Emma, Julian, Fraser, Madeleine, Martin, Iain K, Andy, David C, David M and Willie.[/p][p][br][/p][p]20th May Update:[/p][p]wow, we’ve just made it to £400. Thank you so much to everyone that is supporting us. We’ve added another member to the team taking us up to 24, plus some of our junior members will also be taking part. We had a practice session last night and our collective fitness is just about holding up! One week to go.[/p][p][br][/p][p]21st May Update:[/p][p]We've passed the £500 mark in our fundraising! A big massive BMAC thankyou to everyone that has sponsored us so far. There's still time to join in and support our Virtual Lockdown Knockdown.[/p][p][br][/p][p]26th May Update:[/p][p]Today's the day! This has come around quickly and it looks like it's going to be a warm night for our Lockdown Knockdown. With only 3 hours to go until we get punching, we've raised over £1100 which is just awesome. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported this little bit of fun from our cooped up martial arts club! Let's see if we can get to £1500.[/p][p][br][/p][p]27th May Update:[/p][p]It's the day after the Lockdown Knockdown and a few of us have very tired arms this morning. The event was great fun and we're still adding up our total number of punches but it looks like we'll smash our 50,000 target. We've also raised well over £1500 for our three charities which is awesome. Thanks to the BMAC family for all the punches and to everyone that has supported us so far.[/p][p][br][/p][p]29th May Update:[/p][p]It's our final update. We've counted up the number of punches and we didn't just meet our 50,000 target, we smashed it. Between us, we did an incredible 129,873 punches. The event was lots of fun, with a total of 27 adult and 6 junior members taking part (with a few parents roped in too) and it's remarkable just how exhausting 30 minutes of punching can be. We're so pleased with how much we've been able to raise for our charities and thank you all so much for your generosity. Look out for a report and video of the event soon on our club website at www.bearsdenmartialarts.org[/p][p][br][/p]
