[p]It started with a tweet… [/p][p]And now we’ve recorded this beautiful work… [/p][p][br][/p][p]Dr Alex Aldren left medicine to become an opera singer, but in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic he returned to the NHS frontline. When a video of him singing Nessun Dorma to his colleagues went viral, Alex became an overnight media sensation and has since featured on TV, radio and in newspapers all around the world.[/p][p]Alex wanted to raise awareness of the challenges facing NHS staff and their patients. He tweeted Barts Choir suggesting a charitable collaboration and the wheels of the project began to roll![/p][p]Barts Choir is one of London’s largest professionally rehearsed choirs. Founded by nurses at Barts Hospital in 1965, it has since grown to over 250 regular members performing concerts at Cadogan Hall and Royal Festival Hall every year. [/p][p]Together we decided on the song, Panis Angelicus, by Cesar Frank, because of its timeless beauty and message of hope.[/p][p]The charities benefitting from this project are The Migraine Trust and Barts Charity. [/p][p]The Migraine Trust funds vital research, provides evidence-based information and campaigns for people affected by migraine, a complex neurological condition that affects 1 in 7 people.[/p][p]Barts Charity are doing fantastic work. So far they have raised £80,000 to buy iPads for patients in isolation can have contact with their families. They have also been funding emergency PPE for staff, walkie-talkies to allow staff to communicate from inside isolation zones and wellbeing rooms, to give staff some space to relax in between shifts.[/p][p]We hope you enjoy this recording as much as we enjoyed making it! Please share this far and wide to anyone you think might enjoy it. And please give generously to support frontline NHS staff, and patients. [/p][p]Thank you for your support![/p]
