My story

[p]The London Marathon has been on my 'to do' list for a long time. On April 28th 2019 I won't be in my usual spot on the sofa saying 'next year', I'll hopefully be on the start line with 40,000 others after a winter of long runs, short runs, medium sized runs, bake sales and raffles. I'll be raising money for two fantastic charities and here's why...[/p][p]1) Tommy's - In the last 4 years I have been fortunate enough to have two (relatively) straightforward pregnancies resulting in two wonderful, healthy babies. Until then, like many I didn't realise just how many families do not have such a straightforward journey, experiencing miscarriage, still birth and giving birth to premature babies. 9 babies are born stillborn everyday in the UK, this is one of the highest rates in Europe and is completely unacceptable. 60,000 babies are born prematurely every year in the UK. 1 in 4 women will experience miscarriage in their life. Despite these figures, baby loss is still a taboo subject and parents suffer in silence without appropriate support or feeling like they can talk about their experience. Often these things 'just happen' but they shouldn't. Tommy's not only fund research into the causes of miscarriage and premature birth, they also employ trained midwives to provide advice and support to parents. [/p][p] 2) Ronald McDonald House Charities - RMHC is my second chosen charity. This provides free home from home accommodation for parents who's children are in hospital. Sadly in July last year, the young daughter of one of my lovely friends got very poorly. Unfortunately she didn't survive but whilst she was poorly she spent 7 weeks in intensive care at Birmingham Children's Hospital, several hours from where the family usually live. Ronald McDonald Charities provided accommodation just a few minutes walk from the hospital so they could visit their little girl whenever they liked, for as long as they needed. This is a fantastic source of support for parents who can then focus their energy on their children. Whilst I had a charity place for Tommy's, I decided to up my fundraising target to raise as much money as possible for Ronald McDonald House Charities in memory of Bethany.[/p][p]Thank-you for your support :)[/p][p][br][/p]
