Team story

[p]WE DID IT! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. We cycled 113 miles from Barnet in London to Dunwich in Suffolk on the 13th of August (instead of cycling Ride London, as it was cancelled). The cycle took us through Epping Forest in the pitch black, through Essex as the sun rose, then through a 40 minute storm before reaching the sunny country lanes of Suffolk and then finally jumping in the sea in Dunwich! [/p][p]-[/p][p]In September of last year Bernard bought Helena a road bike to keep fit and they took part in Cycle-300. Where they cycled 300 miles over the course of the month to raise money for Cancer Research. The longest rides they did were London to Cambridge (about 55 miles) and Guildford to Brighton (about 50 over Devils Dyke in a storm!). They now want a bigger challenge for 2020. So when they return from their 3 months in Asia, they will start training for the Prudential Ride London (a 100 mile race starting in the Olympic Park and working its way through Surrey) to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity.[/p][p]A bit about Helena...[/p][p]My father has lived with two brain tumours for almost 20 years (which is the majority of my life). He has undergone radiotherapy, chemotherapy and brain surgery and is still going strong! As a family we have supported The Brain Tumour Charity for many years, and so I thought this would be a perfect challenge to do that again. Science has really kept him alive, so hopefully the money we raise here will go straight into that - so it can help other people. [/p][p]As some of you may know, last year I self-published a book called 100 Stories. It encloses a hundred personal stories of cancer from people all over the world. My aim was to open the discussion surrounding this scary taboo subject and I continue to try and do that to this day. When I started the crowdfunding campaign, to raise funds to print the book, Piers Townley (Senior PR & media officer at The Brain Tumour Charity) helped me get off to a flying start by introducing me to Martino Sclavi (I made a film about Martino). So I feel this is a way of giving back to such a marvellous charity.[/p][p]Follow along with my project online @100StoriesBook[/p][p]A bit about Bernard...[/p][p]I am enthusiastic road cyclist who is always up for a challenge (well maybe not so much, if I stick to cycling with Helena for the whole 100 miles!). I’ve wanted to ride the Prudential London race for a while now, so this is a perfect chance to support my girlfriend and raise money for a very important charity.[/p][p]A bit about The Brain Tumour Charity...[/p][p]The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, were moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. We're set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change. And were doing it right now. Because we understand that when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can't wait.[/p]
