My story

[p]In September I will be taking on the Inflatable 5k at Cheltenham Race Course and raising money for The Door. Safe to say it's going to be hard work I don't usually walk 5k let alone run it and take on the obstacles too![/p][p]I won't be going it alone - Anne will be joining me and between us we are aiming to raise enough money to keep The Door open for one day - £1200 so dig deep and donate today![/p][p]Bev’s Story[/p][p]Bev has been part of The Door family since she first stepped foot in the Gloucester Street Youth Centre after her first day of Secondary School. In the (not so many!) years that have followed she has become a key member of The Door team, she says “I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t involved with The Door in some way, from coming to youth clubs and volunteering to completing my apprenticeship and getting a full time job. The Door has always been there for me; when I was younger The Door was a safe space to hang out with my friends and when times were harder they helped me by matching me with a mentor. Now I work for The Door I get to organise that kind of support for other young people and seeing them make positive changes in their lives is so rewarding. That’s why I am taking on the 5k challenge and raising money for The Door.”[/p][p]Anne is joining me on the course - here's her story:[/p][p]Anne’s Story[/p][p]Anne first started at The Door as a volunteer in the charity shop. “After A-levels everyone around me was off to university, but that wasn’t what I wanted to do. Volunteering in The Door shop was my first step towards working. I didn’t really know what type of job I wanted to do but I knew I wanted to help people. After a year I decided it was time to put effort into getting something paid, turns out The Door was the place for me, the office team took me on as an apprentice administrator and I haven’t looked back since. Now I am one of the longest serving members of the team and get to be in the business of helping people every day. It’s a privilege to work alongside the teams of dedicated people that make real changes in the lives of young people and parents. Knowing and seeing the importance of the work they do every day is why I am taking on the 5K challenge for The Door.”[/p][p]Sponsor Bev at thedoor.org.uk/bev Sponsor Anne at thedoor.org.uk/anne [/p][p]Or you can bring a cash / cheque donation into The Door Shop – cheques should be made payable to The Door Youth Project.[/p][p]The Inflatable 5k is heading to Cheltenham for the first time! The UK’s best Inflatable Assault course has got even bigger, bouncier and more insane. We have added crazy NEW obstacles to make the most fun and extreme inflatable obstacle event ever created.[/p]
