Team story

[p][span=font-size: 7.5pt; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;]464 miles. 10 islands. 8 ferries. 7 days. 2 wheels. 1 aim (minimal chafing).[/span][/p] [p][span=font-size: 7.5pt; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;]Hi – Phil and Mark here. We’re planning to take our bikes, and several boats, from Gourock to Garve via the Inner and Outer Hebrides, within one week around the end of April. We hope to raise a goodly sum of money for two fine charities along the way. Here’s the route:[lt]span[gt] [/span][url=https://goo.gl/maps/KazAvnn5huC2]https://goo.gl/maps/KazAvnn5huC2[/url].[lt]/span[gt][/p] [p][span=font-size: 7.5pt; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;]Phil recently pledged to raise funds for Taylan’s Project ([url=http://www.taylansproject.com/]www.taylansproject.com[/url]) having been humbled by the amazing efforts that his friends Andy and Figen Rawlinson have made since losing their eldest son Taylan to a brain tumour, in 2009, at the age of 7. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of UK children, yet research about them is woefully underfunded. With their incidence also on the rise, they can strike at any age and the harsh reality of the illness was brought home to Phil even more directly when his Mum, Joyce, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2013; she lost her battle in late 2014, aged 70. Joyce spent her last weeks in the Marie Curie Hospice Glasgow, where the care and support of the staff was truly wonderful. The money collected from our trip will therefore be split 50/50 between Brain Tumour Research (the charity that Taylan’s Project raises funds for) and Marie Curie.[/span][/p] [p][span=font-size: 7.5pt; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;]Mark, who is better with and on bikes than Phil, is sharing the trip. Despite the likelihood that he’ll be way out in front, he’s also right behind the cause and doubling up on the fundraising side. His employer, Barclays, has also kindly offered to match what he raises, up to a grand (this extra contribution will go to Marie Curie).[/span][/p] [p][span=font-size: 7.5pt; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;]Many thanks for your interest and support – Phil & Mark[/span][/p]
