My story

[p]I have been lucky enough to get a Good-For-Age place in the 2020 Virgin London Marathon. Don’t go thinking this is because I am good; rather it’s because I’ve had more than a few birthdays. Getting into the London Marathon is one thing that does get easier as you get older![/p][p]I got my GFA place by virtue of completing Bungay Marathon back in April in 4 hours and 12 minutes. I run for the Bungay Black Dog running club so this was home territory, there was plenty of local encouragement and it was a chilly day with no reason to hang about.[/p][p]So why run for Aylsham and District Care Trust (ACT)? I work at Green Lane View Housing with Care scheme across the road from ACT. Our tenants make full use of the ACT services. I volunteer at ACT and I’ve seen first-hand the difference that ACT can make to the lives of elderly and lonely people. Most of us take simple things like having a natter with someone, going out for the day or popping along to the supermarket for granted. For too many in our community, their homes become their prisons. ACT provides friendship, a listening ear, a good lunch and the opportunity to escape from home for a few hours. ACT is one example of how amazing things can happen when a few people with good hearts do very simple things.[/p][p]If you can spare the cost of a cup of coffee, ACT and I would be very grateful. Any donations will help to keep the minibuses rolling, the volunteers smiling and the building warm and welcoming.[/p][p]And if you are wondering, YES, I have done the London Marathon before-several times. I still have a little unfinished business with the event. A few years ago I was heading for a good finish time when someone caught my ankle and I continued up the road on my face and knees. Not fun at even a lowly seven miles an hour! The Marathon owes me two front teeth and 24 stitches in my face and I aim to make it pay next time around![/p][p][br][/p]
