My story

[p] "I am surprised to have reached 74 and saddened that so many friends haven’t. Too many have died of cancer and prostate cancer is one of the biggest killers of men, rivalling breast cancer for women but much less well funded in terms of research spend. [/p][p] [/p][p]That’s why I’m trying to raise money for prostate cancer research.[/p][p] [/p][p]Roger Kirby is acclaimed as the UK’s best known and most experienced prostate surgeon. I was introduced to him by a friend in 1999 and raised £15,000 for his prostate research program by running a marathon in 2001. Putting my paltry effort to shame he has raised, personally, over £3 million through marathon running, mountain climbing, trekking and cycling challenges for both The Urology Foundation and Prostate UK. Roger is simply a dynamo, he has performed over 2,000 radical prostatectomy operations (the last 950 using the amazing da Vinci robot). He has written over 60 books and published more than 300 scientific papers, he is founder and current editor of the journal Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases and has been heavily involved in the development of national guidelines for prostate healthcare. [/p][p] [/p][p]It is a privilege to attempt to assist with the immensely valuable work carried out by Prostate Cancer UK and I hope that you will support my staggering (strictly in the physical sense) effort."[/p][p][br][/p][p]Brian Basham (aka The Gerry Jogger)[/p]
