Team story

[p]Hi everyone, we are really pleased to see that we are slowly emerging from the pandemic and that charity supporters can start to plan events to raise much needed funds again. [/p][p]After postponing our event for just over a year we are proud to announce that we aim to complete this challenge in July this year. [/p][p]As a reintroduction, we are serving, retired and friends of firefighters from Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue Service attempting the mammoth challenge of cycling Lands’ End to John O’Groats (the difficult way!), to raise money for 2 very special charities, the Firefighters Charity and Bowel Cancer UK.[/p][p]The team members are Shaun Waters, Bob Paterson, Clive Durbin, Dave Etheridge, Gary Stables and myself Gary Mattingley and we all hope to complete the challenge of just over 1100 miles in 14 days, cycling an average of 80 miles per day. [/p][p]This will not be accomplished without the invaluable support and inspiration of Angela, Rachael, Guy, Sue and Linda whom we will rely on every step of the way. [/p][p]The charities we have chosen for this challenge mean a great deal to each of us:[/p][p]The Firefighters Charity have supported family, friends and colleagues with their expertise and considerable care providing rehabilitation from injuries and mental health support.[/p][p]Bowel Cancer UK has been chosen because we all know family and friends that are currently fighting or that have passed away from this disease.[/p][p]Dave Etheridge, who lost his father to Bowel Cancer a year ago, has a close friend who was diagnosed last year and is now coming towards the end of her treatment. She has been lucky, but her message is this: Please support the Brikcoin End to End Challenge 2021. It is with your help and donations that more awareness of bowel cancer can be made. Between 2015-17 there were 16,272 deaths from Bowel Cancer in the UK. To those of you who may suspect things are not quite right with your ‘bottom health’, don’t wait, put your embarrassment aside and please go and get checked. It may be nothing, but it may be something.[/p][p]We all would like to say a sincere thank you to our sponsors who have also helped make this challenge possible - BRIKCOIN - GCi Health - Bristol Uniforms - PBi Products - HR Solutions Hub[/p][p]BRIKCOIN is our main sponsor who are building social and affordable housing in the UK. [/p][p]The challenge itself starts from Land’s End on Sunday 4th July 2021, finally arriving at John O’Groats 14 days later on Saturday 17th July 2021.[/p]
