My story

[p]The communities at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda suffered terrible flooding this year. Many lost their lives, and many more were made homeless and lost all their crops.[/p][p]This catastrophe was caused in part by changing weather patterns of the climate crisis and in part because of thoughtless deforestation.[/p][p]At last, local communities understand the importance of trees. They now know they stabilise the soil, help water to soak safely into the ground and moderate the water cycle in the atmosphere.[/p][p]Three community groups are working together to support 150 farmers each to plant 100 trees. This project is already well underway. We want to ensure that it comes to a successful conclusion. We also want to work with the pupils and teachers of six primary schools to plant indigenous trees (some of which are threatened species) and fruit trees in the school grounds.[/p][p]In this way the next generation are helped to learn at a very early age about the importance of trees and how to plant them and care for them.[/p]
