Team story

[p]On July 2nd 2021, we cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats as a team of 6 in aid of Cancer Research UK and The Oddballs Foundation. Our team included Joshua Toll, Jordan Finding, Sam Westgate, Luke Nasipler, Ross Dougan and Michael Woods[/p][p]The route stretched 910 miles over the UK from Cornwall to North Scotland with over 43,500ft of vertical climbing over 12.5 days. We used no supporting vehicle so everything we needed for survival was carried ourselves… on our bikes. It's a long way to go with nothing but the shirts on our backs and the tents on our racks.[/p][p]However, it's all in aid of two great causes. Both charities mean a lot to us, we have lost loved ones to cancer, as many have, so we're proud to help contribute to the amazing work Cancer Research do. We also chose to support The Oddballs Foundation as a few of us have personally experienced changes to our testicular health. You never think it'll be you until it is. It's vital to raise awareness for testicular cancer since it's so easy to check yourself, and ultimately treat, when caught early. Don't be afraid of a little fondle.[/p][p]Cancer Research UK alone are expecting a 25% drop in funding this year due to the COVID-19 crisis, so it is more important than ever to help support the fantastic life-saving research they do for all 200 types of cancer. Cancer has affected all of our lives in some way shape or form, and we personally hold this cause close to us. Over the last 40 years, cancer survival rates in the UK have doubled. In the 1970s just 1 in 4 people survived their disease for 10 years or more. Today 2 in 4 survive. Cancer Research UK’s ambition is to accelerate progress and see 3 in 4 patients surviving the disease by 2034.[/p][p]The Oddballs Foundation was set up in 2016 and uses 100% of all donations to raise awareness for Testicular Cancer. Around 2,300 men are diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in the UK each year, with it being the most common type of cancer to affect men between 15 and 49. Although a relatively rare cancer overall, awareness is vital. If caught early, it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer.[/p][p]It’s easy to check yourself and easy to notice any changes - just checking yourself is the first step towards potentially saving your life. It’s so quick and simple booking an appointment to make sure, even if you think it’s nothing. We are Busting Our Balls to Save Yours.[/p][p]Thank you for reading, and thank you so much to anyone willing to support us in any way, big or small. All of your donations will make a huge difference to these charities during a time when they need our support more than ever.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Cancer Research UK. (2020).
