[p]Thank you for visiting our team's fundraising page for our 2020 sponsored 10k Walk. We won't be able to do our normal walk all together this year, due to the Coronavirus, but we still need your help (more now than ever). So, rather than do nothing we have set our volunteers and supporters a challenge - The '10' Challenge. [/p][p]Please sponsor us and help raise £10,000 to support our general advice service[/p][p]Between now and the 8 June, our volunteers and staff will be doing a number of challenges based around '10s' as we can't do our usual 10k sponsored walk. We also need to raise £10,000 to overcome our predicted shortfall for this year. So, 10 seemed like a good number to start with! The challenges will be a mixture of physical and mental activities, including the LLST's 10,000 steps challenge. [/p][p]So far our team are:[/p][p]Peter Wilkinson Volunteer Adviser (& his wife Carol) - doing: 10,000 steps on 8th June; plus a 10k cycle in a day; 10mile cycle in a day; 100 mile bike ride over a week; 10x walk up and downstairs (he has a lot of stairs!); Peter is also going to watch 10x films, 10x plays, and do 10x internet cribbage and 10x internet chess games - to exercise the mind as well as the body![/p][p]Max (6 month old grandson of Peter Wilkinson) - has completed his 10 new foods weaning challenge and has now moved onto a 10 makaton signs challenge![/p][p]Jodi Truss Office Manager - doing: 10mile run (aka her 'Shog' - 'shuffle-jog') on the downs (walking distance from home!); & the PeterLockFitness 10x10x10 exercise circuit (that's 10 repetitions of 10 different exercises completed every day for 10 days - see video: https://youtu.be/t1TSXB8AanU )[/p][p]Geoff Ferguson Research & Campaigns Volunteer - doing 300miles walking or cycling in June[/p][p]Ash-Kara (Sky) Seal Volunteer Adviser - baking: 10 individual celebration cakes over 10 days, ending with her own birthday cake on 8 June! Plus, doing: the 10x10x10 circuit challenge and an activity a day (such as 100 star jumps or 10x stair climbs for at least 10 days) & reading a different story a day for 10 days. [/p][p]Please donate as generously as you are able[/p][p]Citizens Advice Eastbourne is an independent charity; each year we have to raise funds to keep our free advice service going. Like so many other charities our face to face fundraising activities have had to stop, including a fundraising gala dinner and sponsored walk which would have raised thousands. [/p][p]That's why we’re asking you to sponsor us and help us continue to support local people in need. [/p][p]In accordance with government guidelines on social distancing, our entire staff team have moved to home working. That’s 50 volunteers and 8 paid staff. We continue to offer advice by telephone and online and are helping people navigate the support which is available, particularly on Coronavirus related issues. We’re: [/p][p]helping people understand their benefits entitlement and helping people apply, [/p][p]challenging benefit decisions to make sure people get the support they need, [/p][p]understanding their rights and entitlements as employees or self-employed, [/p][p]advising on housing rights and preventing homelessness[/p][p]giving advice on debts and negotiating with creditors[/p][p]advising on domestic abuse, sexual violence and hate crimes and where to get support[/p][p]...and much more.[/p][p]People can contact us on any subject and our highly trained team of volunteers and specialists will help you find a way forward or find another agency better able to help. The demand for our services has increased and we expect it to remain high for the foreseeable future, including when the current restrictions are lifted. [/p][p]However, we are an independent charity and each year we have to raise funds to make sure we can continue to provide our service. Due to the current emergency, we need your help this year more than ever.[/p][p]Many thanks for your support[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
