My story

[p]Thank you so much for visiting our team's fundraising page for the 2020 London Legal Support Trust’s "10x Challenge" [/p][p]Even though the usual mass Walk is off this year, due to Covid-19, we're still taking part, both before and including the week of the cancelled date of 5th October, with a CASCAIDr-specific creative 10x Challenge. [/p][p]Our team is: Belinda Schwehr, Fiona Bateman, Sue Inker, Tara Watson, ...[/p][p]Some of our team will be walking their own 10K for sponsorship, but we're going to do something more RADICAL, here at HQ. [/p][p]We're going to answer 10 legal framework questions, for 10 consecutive weekdays, between 28 September and 9 October – on adults’ social care law and associated topics! The answers will be posted on our website and on social media and on YouTube (3-4 juicy ones from the day's topic) so that they build up into a useful resource, and a talking point, we hope.[/p][p]By doing that, we want to[/p][p]- raise funds for CASCAIDr in what will be a new venture for us for 2021 – becoming a full service but exempt charitable legal entity, able to issue judicial review proceedings when literally nothing else that we can think of saying or doing, has worked![/p][p]- engage with the public on all the questions that service users, family carers, social workers, legal aid lawyers, advocates, care providers and care brokers (and secretly, social work senior managers, we suspect) want to see aired;[/p][p]- make the general public aware that social services law and people's rights deserve to be nurtured and discussed in day-to-day lives, at a time when nobody knows what the impact of Covid-19 will have, in the end, on the big idea of a social care safety net, to which we’re all supposedly entitled...[/p][p]- and of course, showcase that we really do know what we’re talking about, so that by the end of the fortnight, we will have grown our client base and encouraged people to use law and legal literacy, to get their rights delivered![/p][p]Our target is to reach 1000 curious people and inspire them to donate a crispy online tenner, in keeping with the theme of the LLST's 10x campaign. [/p][p]We're over a quarter of the way there, already, so please help us make it![/p][p]Here are our ground rules: [/p][p]The question must be anonymous in relation to the name of the council / CCG and the person in need. You can ASK it anonymously as well, on the posting link below,[/p][p]It must be about the law relating to a person aged 16+[/p][p]It must be a GENERAL question - one focusing on a principle or a practice, not a request for legal advice, specific to you or your loved one’s exact current situation (- we won't feature those that ignore that request, but you can always make a referral for free on www.cascaidr.org.uk!)[/p][p]It can be more than one connected question, but it must be able to be asked in LESS THAN 100 WORDS.[/p][p]It doesn't matter which day you post yours, we'll categorise it and fit it into this structure.[/p][p]It can be about the System in general and Advocacy (MON 28); Assessment and Eligibility (TUES 29); Budget Sign-Off and Care Planning (WEDS 30); Cuts and Revisions (THURS 1) and Supported Living, Ordinary Residence, and Housing Issues (FRI 2). [/p][p]The second week, on the day the Walk would have happened, we'll be doing Covid-related questions, Easements and Carers' issues (MON 5); Mental Capacity and Choice (TUES 6); Direct Payments, "Managed Accounts" and Health Budgets (WEDS 7), Continuing Health Care and s117 aftercare (THURS 8) and Charging and Financial Assessment (FRI 9). Oh yes - and Human Rights, at any time! [/p][p]Here's an example that would be relevant to Carers' Issues:[/p][p]Can councils lawfully offer flat-rated levels of respite to family carers of adults being cared for at home? [/p][p]What if the council announced that service users or the family would be able to evidence WHY they think they needed more than that, when seeking a Care Act assessment or a revision of the care or the support plan? [/p][p]Would it make any difference if the amount being offered was banded but determined by something bizarre, like the age or weight of the person in need?[/p][p]Here's the link for posting your question at the bottom of the guidelines on our site's campaign page: https://www.cascaidr.org.uk/2020/09/22/cascaidrs-2020-q-and-a-fund-raising-campaign/[/p][p][br][/p][p]Please sponsor our walkers (and our talkers!) as generously as you can, and sign for Gift Aid if you qualify as a UK tax payer and would like HMRC to give us 25% more.[/p][p]Many thanks for your support. [/p][p]CASCAIDr stands for the Centre for Adults’ Social Care – Advice, Information and Dispute Resolution. [/p][p]CASCAIDr works tirelessly for the furtherance of fairness and legal principle, in adults’ health and social care services – in other words, for the sound administration of justice for those who, due to mental ill-health, physical or sensory impairments, deterioration or disability, need care and support to enable them to work, study, stay safe or develop social networks.[/p][p][br][/p]
