My story

[p]Thank you for visiting the CASCAIDr team's fundraising page for the 2021 London Legal sponsored walk.[/p][p]Our team so far is: Belinda Schwehr, Samantha Palmer Canyellas, Sam Spillett, Sue Inker, Simon West, Alexandra Domingue, Dave Haines[/p][p]We are walking with the Lord Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers who are raising funds for Law Centres and pro bono agencies in and around London.[/p][p]Our team is fundraising directly for CASCAIDr, so all funds donated to this web page will be received by CASCAIDr.[/p][p]CASCAIDr works to ensure fairness and legal principle, in adults’ health and social care services. We do this for those who, due to age, physical or mental ill-health, sensory impairments, deterioration or disability, need care and support to enable them to work, study, stay safe or develop social networks. They have legal rights, but the system is broken, right now. Even the President of the Directors of Adults Services says so![/p][p]Social services difficulties have hit the public's consciousness this year, so we really hope that people understand how much it matters that there ARE legal rights in this country (still! despite the pandemic!) to adequate care packages and procedural fairness. Use them or lose them, we say! [/p][p]The LGSCO has just reported that 72% of complaints (ones already rejected by professionals in councils) are upheld by the ombudsman, and the Law Society has just reported that 67% of people with a community care legal problem in this country have no access to a legal aid lawyer offering this specialist expertise. [/p][p]It would seem that compliance with the rule of law has been WRUNG OUT of statutory social work, by the political and economic choices being made in all our names. There are no real legal rights without remedies, and we can't survive unless we are funded to give people some hope of enforcement. [/p][p]If you want to understand more about why social care rights need to remain part of the safety net this country offers, please have a look at www.cascaidr.org.uk and specifically HERE for an overview of what we have achieved, despite Covid: https://www.cascaidr.org.uk/2021/03/10/our-third-years-impact-despite-covid-19/[/p][p]And please support our walkers as generously as you are able - and please do have a look at our week-long video series on what's gone wrong with the culture in adult social services, click here . For the last day of our pre-Walk Fundraising, Sunday 17th, Belinda our CEO has done a video about what rights people DO HAVE in the legal framework, so as to end on a high![/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you so much![/p]
