My story

[p]If you'd like to see video updates from my runs please scroll to the bottom of this section πŸ‘πŸ»[/p][p]Hello![/p][p]My name is Mark and I like cake! Really, I do but I also have to admit to being super unfit and more rotund than I would like. My main exercise is walking to the fridge or to my gin shelf, not just since social isolation, I've been practicing for this for years![/p][p]With this in mind I decided I need to get fitter especially if I want my fancy shirts to fit me when we are post isolation so I have decided to do the NHS couch to 5K. I shared this with a networking group yesterday and it was suggested I should do this for charity, my initial response was NO because that would mean I am committed.[/p][p]After gasping my way around the park this morning I have decided I really do need to do this for charity so I have some sort of accountability and responsibility to do this, if I don't then I probably won't go again.[/p][p]If you're not familiar with the couch to 5K then download the app and find out more but basically this mornings session was 5 minutes brisk walk followed by 60 seconds running then 90 seconds walking repeated 8 times followed by a final 5 minute brisk walk. The sessions are guided with a narrator so I chose Sarah Millican to accompany me as I am sure I heard her say she likes cake too so we clearly have an affinity.[/p][p]My next mission was to decide on a charity but being aware of so many in need I couldn't choose one so I have chosen four. They are all worthy causes and I know each will be impacted by social distancing measures and an inability to get groups together to fundraise in the current climate. I could have selected more but I don't want to dilute the reward of my efforts too much.[/p][p]Firstly I chose Age Concern Central Lancashire and Age UK because they are both doing a great job supporting the elderly in our communities, not just through this Covid19 episode but before that too. Hopefully I will live long enough to be considered elderly so I'm perhaps investing in my future too.[/p][p]I then chose Pendleside Hospice, I am aware of their work as they are local to me and like many I have lost a partner and family members to life limiting conditions much earlier in their lives than would normally be expected. Stephen and Suzanne to name just two will be in my mind as I do this.[/p][p]Finally I chose Seashell Trust. At Bellyflop we have filmed with them many times over the years and the work they do supporting children and young adults with complex learning disabilities and additional communication needs never ceases to amaze me.[/p][p]Please support me, I will be extremely grateful whatever you can afford to donate as every penny helps. If you can't afford a financial donation then please donate a like and share on your social media channels so I can reach as many people as possible and hit my target.[/p][p]I will keep you updated on my progress through this trying time, erm, I mean throughout my journey with regular video updates so please subscribe to my YouTube channel so please subscribe and click here where you will see the most recent update.[/p][p]Finally, once I have completed this I will be treating myself to a huge slice of cake..... Carrot Cake in case you're wondering.[/p][p]Thank you for your support, my social media links are below - please feel free to tag me in your posts.[/p][p]Mark[/p][p]Facebook[/p][p]Twitter[/p][p]LinkedIn[/p][p]YouTube [/p][p]Heres a link to run number one[/p][p]Heres a link to run number two![/p][p]Heres a link to run number three[/p][p]Heres a link to run number four[/p]
