My story

[p]Carl & Ali Pratt raising money for 5 charities that mean a lot to us[/p][p]In 2011 Carl ran the Great North Run and supported Cardiomyopathy UK. Our niece was diagnosed with this condition as a baby and has spent a lot of time being treated and monitored at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. [/p][p]Six years later, our then 9 month old son Charlie fell severely ill. Our world fell apart when our beautiful boy was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Following 4 nights in the intensive care unit, we were transferred to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle for an assessment for a heart transplant. Mid November, it was confirmed that Charlie needed a Heart Transplant and was placed on the urgent heart transplant list. [/p][p]We stayed at the freeman hospital accommodation, Scott House for 5 months thanks to The Sick Children's Trust. [/p][p]The Sick Children's Trust believes keeping families together significantly improves the recovery of seriously ill children. They provide free, high-quality ‘Home from Home’ accommodation, as well as emotional and practical support, to families with sick children in hospital in the UK.[/p][p]Between October 2017 and March 2018 Charlie was between PICU and Ward 23 HDU whilst on the urgent waiting list at the Freeman Hospital. [/p][p]The Children's Heat Unit Fund (CHUF) support the children and families who receive treatment by the Children’s Heart Unit staff based at Freeman Hospital and raising vital funds for large and small pieces of equipment, facilities, aftercare, salaries and research.[/p][p]In January 2018, our twin girls Lizzy & Rosie were born on Charlie's first birthday. In February, Charlie had a successful heart transplant.[/p][p]Following medical investigation of possible genetic inheritance of DCM, our daughter Rosie, Ali herself and Ali's brother have been diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy.[/p][p]Charlie and Rosie will continue to be monitored regularly at Alder Hey and The Freeman Hospital over the coming years as they are growing up.[/p][p]Finally, we will never forget that Charlie's gift of a new heart was such an amazing and brave thing for the family to do who have sadly lost their child, therefore we are supporting Child Bereavement UK. Child Bereavement UK supports families and educates professionals both when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying, and when a child is facing bereavement.[/p][p]Carl will be doing a lot of running this year to help raise awareness and money for each of these charities, we will be updating this page regularly with his results. He will be setting targets for each race and his company Octave Design Services Ltd. will donate extra money based on varying challenges which will be shown and updated below.[/p][p]Challenge 1: 19/05/19 Chester Half Marathon - £5 for every minute below 1hr 40 minutes (1h:38)[/p][p]Challenge 2: 26/05/19 Liverpool R&R Half Marathon - £5 for every minute below 1hr 40 minutes (1hr:46)[/p][p]Challenge 3: 01/06/19 Parkrun £5 for every minute below 25 minutes (23 minutes)[/p][p]Challenge 4 30/06/19: 52 Mile Tour of Merseyside: £1 for every minute under 7 hours (06:54:03)[/p][p]Challenge 5 21/07/19: Aintree Racecourse Half Marathon[/p][p]Challenge 6: 06/09/19 26 mile whistle stop tour of Merseyside[/p][p]Challenge 7: 15/09/19 EHM Warrington Half Marathon[/p][p]Challenge 8: The big one: 06/10/19 Chester Marathon[/p]
