My story

[p]Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and for donating. I'm taking on this crazy challenge and fundraising in support of Mind and your support is hugely appreciated.[/p][p]I've never run a marathon before. The most I have run in one go is a half marathon, which was in October 2018. The day after I ran that, I received my acceptance letter for the London Marathon on Sunday 28th April 2019. This is only the second time I have entered the public ballot, and I feel privileged to have gained a place when many thousands have been left disappointed. [/p][p]It is due to this that I decided to raise money for a mental health charity. After all, how much of a challenge and how hard can training for, and eventually running, a marathon be? Well, it is very challenging, but not as challenging as living with a mental illness is. [/p][p]Making time for the training is difficult, and the training itself is hard, knowing you have to get out and run in all weathers, no matter how much you would prefer to stay in bed and keep warm and dry. BUT, although I will continue to run after the marathon, that will be MY choice. There are many people, young and old, male or female, for which every day is a challenge while living and dealing with a mental illness.[/p][p]For these people and their families living with a mental illness, their challenge will continue long after mine has finished at the end of April.[/p][p]Thank you in advance for any donation you feel you can make, which will be gratefully received by Mind, and will be put to good use.[/p][p]Finally, I am running in memory of Adrian and Nick xx[/p][p]Please note, I started fundraising for my local South Lakeland Mind branch (raising £466), but unfortunately as of 31st March 2019 they have ceased operations. If you have already donated to my JustGiving page for that, please do not feel you need to donate again ! However, I am still fundraising and have therefore switched to the main Mind charity, so this page is for people who have yet to donate. And just to let you know that the money you have already donated did get sent to the charity - JustGiving send any donations to the chosen charity each week. Thanks, Carole[/p][p]Who are Mind?[/p][p]We're Mind, the mental health charity. We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We're here for you. Today. Now. Whether you're stressed, depressed or in crisis. We'll listen, give support and advice, and fight your corner.[/p][p]We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.[/p][p]Watch this short video to find out more?[/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPxHTZRwXX8[/p][p]This is what your donation could do:[/p][p]£10 could allow us to send essential information booklets about mental health to 40 people.[/p][p]£40 could pay for 28 people to campaign for change on our behalf.[/p][p]£70 could keep our online community, Elefriends, open and safe for two hours. [/p][p]£120 could offer a lifeline to eight people in desperate need of support from our Mind legal line.[/p][p]£200 could help us keep the Mind Infoline open for 1 hour, helping 35 people.[/p][p]£300 could support a young person bereaved by suicide to access 1:1 and group support. [/p][p]£550 could provide five people struggling with their mental health a place in a 10-week wellbeing group with team sports and cookery.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Mind. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p]
