My story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page.[/p][p]On 24th April 2016 I will be joining thousands to run the London Marathon. This is my first  marathon and I want to really make it count for something special.[/p][p] Although I am running via a ballot place, I would like to use this challenge to raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff. [/p][p]The lives of my family, friends and colleagues have been affected by cancer in many ways. On a very personal level, my children lost both their beloved grandfathers in recent years to cancer - my Dad, Roy Rees, in December 2010 and my father in law, Owen Egan, in October 2013. Both were much loved and we miss them every day. I will be running in their memory and I hope that any sponsorship I am able to raise through this marathon challenge will go to assist others going through a cancer diagnosis and treatment. I have also been inspired by the efforts of my daughter, Caitlin, who has worked hard raising money for Velindre together with her school team "The Velindrettes". [/p][p]Velindre is the largest non surgical cancer hospital in Wales and has been providing support and care to cancer patients for nearly 60 years. Every pound that is raised for Velindre will be used towards their "Victory Over Cancer" campaign which will be used to ensure the best support is offered to every patient, their families and carers dealing with cancer. It will allow Velindre to fund ground breaking research and buy specialist equipment so that the staff have access to the most up to date training and techniques available.  [/p][p]As part of my run up to the London Marathon on 24th April, I will be running in the Cardiff World Half Marathon event on 26th March so any donations will be on the basis of 2 challenge events for 1 donation! ( Update - half marathon completed successfully on 26 March 2016  so just the 26.2 miles to go!)  [/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. [/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations[/p][p]A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far and for all your kind messages of support! [/p][p][/p][p][span=text-decoration: underline;]FINAL UPDATE: [/span]  [/p][p][/p][p]I DID IT![/p][p]I completed the London Marathon in 5:09 and I am on top of the world. It was incredibly tough but as amazing as everyone promised it would be. It pushed me on to think of all the support I have had and the generous donations to my fundraising on behalf of Velindre. Thank you everyone. [/p][p]Caroline X [/p]
