My story

[p]3 days and 2 nights! An extreme challenge with an amazing group of women for whom I could not have more admiration.[/p][p] [/p][p]Hyperemesis Gravdrium is constantly referred to as extreme morning sickness. Let me assure you that it so much more than the normal levels of vomiting and nausea in pregnancy.[/p][p]HG is extreme, prolonged and persistent vomiting which can last the entire pregnancy. It causes its suffers to find functioning in everyday life extremely difficult, a struggle to simply maintain an adequate food and fluid intake. In my personal case, vomiting up to x50 a day.[/p][p] [/p][p]HG leads to so many complications in most cases, life changing ones. The worst part is that it is not even well known by Drs, midwives and other healthcare professionals[/p][p] [/p][p]Very briefly here is our story[/p][p]A snippet about me…[/p][p]I am a x3 HG survivor and have 3 happy, cheeky, healthy, wonderful daughters. They are our world. My pregnancies however, were not so pretty. Until I was pregnant, we had never even heard of HG. I was admitted into hospital at just 3 weeks pregnant with our eldest, with what they thought was gastroenteritis. Too early to show on a pregnancy test and only showing up in my blood work, the Drs thankfully had an idea of what was going on. We were told that it was nothing to worry about and that this horrible part of my pregnancy would pass by 12 weeks! That never happened. It lasted the entirety of my pregnancy. I fought (my family and I) for the rest of my pregnancy for help. Any help! It never came.[/p][p] [/p][p]The effect that had on my mental health was massive. I was forced out of my job, and felt isolated and alone, truly awful that I wasn’t coping well with my pregnancy, there was definitely no glow here,! My life felt like it wasn’t in my control. I lost friends and it put a tremendous strain on our relationship. When my daughter was born, and the sickness stopped, I boxed up all my feelings and moved on. I couldn’t deal with everything that had happened and needed to move on, in hindsight I just went into survival mode. (Apart from certain smells that I have an aversion too, still now!)[/p][p] [/p][p]We survived HG twice more, the story still the same. After our youngest was born, a few months in, everything hit me like a bus. Everything that we had suffered felt raw and overwhelming. I was eventually diagnosed with PTSD.[/p][p] [/p][p]Pregnancy Sickness Support (PSS) is a small charity based in Cornwall that provides information, support, 1-2-1 peer support, treatment plans and extensive knowledge for all who require it in the UK. Unfortunately, I only discovered PSS after my pregnancies. Part of my recovery now is to help others that are in the same situation that we were in. They truly are amazing in the work that they do! THANK YOU PSS![/p][p] [/p][p]That is why I have decided to take on this massive challenge! If I can overcome the above I can overcome everything, Right?[/p][p]I want to do this for my daughters, our girls! To not only show them that they can achieve anything that they want, but so that should they ever suffer, more help will be at hand.[/p][p]Please consider sponsoring me (us) it is hugely important to me and mine x[/p][p]FYI… I'm both excited and petrified! xxx[/p]
