My story

[p]Gregor decided to set up the Castle Crusade with an aim of running from Stirling Castle to Tyne Castle (40 miles) on Sunday 23rd May 2021 to raise funds for My Name'5 Doddie foundation, MND Scotland and the Euan Macdonald Centre. [/p][p]The inspiration for this event has come from losing his dad to this disease. Gregor's dad was diagnosed with MND (Motor Neuron Disease) in May 2017, prior to passing away on the 28th Feb 2019. Throughout his illness he kept his sense of humour, always had a smile and never asked "Why me?".[/p][p]Joining the Castle Crusade and running various stages of the run with Gregor are a few sporting legends. Ryan Stevenson (Hearts FC), Colin Cameron (Hearts & Scotland), Simon Ramsden (Motherwell), Tam McManus (Hibernian), Willie Conquer (Referee) and Scott Hastings (Watsonians & Scotland Rugby Union). Alongside the legends will be Scott Wilson, the voice of Tynecastle. [/p][p]For those of you who don't know much about MND, it is a progressive degenerative disease of the motor neurones in the brain and wasting of the muscles which affects people of all ages. It affects even those who are young, fit and healthy, including professional sportspeople Doddie Weir, Rob Burrow and Fernando Ricksen to name but a few. Recently, Marius Zaliukas who captained Gregor's beloved Hearts to a famous cup win in 2012, recently lost his battle at the age of 36.[/p][p]The average life expectancy from the onset of symptoms is 2-5 years, presently there is NO cure, however, there has been a recent breakthrough in research into potential triggers for the disease but further research is needed to find a complete cure.[/p][p]Please contribute as little or as much as you can. To sponsor ALL runners taking part. We must help find a cure for this horrific disease.[/p][p]Thank You[/p]
