Team story

[p]Hello and thanks for visiting our page. We are part of a team of 6, who will be attempting to swim a relay across the English Channel in August 2013 to raise awareness and funds for our chosen charities:[/p] [p]The Moebius Research Trust (Graham)[/p] [p]We met a lovely girl called Ana Carys, at our Son Henry’s playschool, who has Moebius Syndrome. Not much is known about this condition. The most noticeable symptoms are difficulty smiling, blinking or moving the eyes laterally. Yhe Moebius Research Trust are about half way towards raising the £250,000 they need to start research into Moebius Syndrome.[/p] [p]Back Up (Liam)[/p] [p]Liam has had two very lucky escapes with back injuries. On both occasions, he was found to be badly bruised (luckily) but close shaves. This has made Liam think and realise how lucky he is and that there are others who are not so fortunate. He would like to raise funds to help this amazing charity.[/p] [p]The Haemophilia Society (Dom)[/p] [p]My son Sam is affected by Haemophilia. We are lucky as it is only mildly in his case but it has brought us close to the charity and have experienced how it can limit the lives of those seriously affected.[/p] [p]English Channel Relay[/p] [p]The swim from Dover (England) to Calais (France) is approximately 18.2 nautical miles (21 land miles). The English Channel Swim is world renowned for its complexity and the challenging local environment. We will be swimming in cold water, 15°C to 18°C (hypothermia is a major consideration and cold water training is important) for between 10 to 20 hours. Some of the swim will be in darkness and there will be seaweed, rubbish, timbers, etc. to dodge and swim through. There is usually a swell and it can turn quite choppy. The weather is always uncertain and changeable. The swim is every bit a mental swim as well as a very physical one, and the swimmer must be both mentally and physically attuned.[/p] [p]To prepare ourselves for this challenge we will be training through the winter (trunks only!!), night swimming and deep water swimming alongside a boat. Please visit blog for updates![/p] [p]Please Help![/p] [p]This will be our biggest challenge yet and we hope that by completing it we will not only achieve our personal goals but help those who are less fortunate. If you could please show your support by sponsoring us, it will give us the encouragement we need to keep us going through the long cold training sessions and make it to France!![/p] [p]Thank you,[/p] [p]Liam, Graham and Dom[/p] [p]More Info:[/p] [p]Graham’s blog - http://jiffsbigswim.wordpress.com/[/p] [p]Channel Swimming Info - http://www.channelswimming.net/geninfo.htm[/p][p] Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p]
