[p]I am raising money for the Kohima Education Trust, a charity that provides educational assistance to the young people of Nagaland in India. The trust was set up in 2004 to repay the debt of honour owed to the local Naga tribespeople for their unstinting support of the British Army units in the fierce battle with the Japanese in the spring of 1944. Without the Nagas' support, it is doubtful whether the British would have prevailed in this key battle in the latter part of WW2.[/p][p]My father's older brother and my namesake, Charlie, died in this battle. I am doing the charity ride both to raise funds for KET, an extremely worthwhile cause, and to commemorate my Uncle Charlie on VJ75 Day, the 75th anniversary of the end of the war.[/p][p]KET provides scholarships and other forms of assistance to young people from Nagaland who wish to attend high school or university, giving them the chance to achieve their full potential and go on to interesting and fulfilling careers.[/p][p]I am riding from London to Dunwich in Suffolk, the route of the celebrated Dunwich Dynamo night ride. However, we will be doing the ride in daylight in order to enjoy the summer landscape![/p][p]Any donation or sponsorship you would like to give would be extremely welcome.[/p][p]Post script: [/p][p]Ride successfully completed on Saturday, despite persistant drizzle and headwinds for the first half. JC and Jackson (poodle) met me at Dunwich beach and we then had tea with friends/clients in Westleton at the house I designed a few years ago, before heading back to London. Huge thanks to everyone who has sponsored me, raising a really decent total for KET.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Share Charles's story[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
