Kellys Heroes - Bike ride 2020

[p]Having served as a Police officer for 30 years I attended a number of incidents involving people who sadly could not see any way out of the circumstances in which they found themselves, other than to end their own lives. I worked with the families and friends who were left behind in a professional way and with the utmost of sympathy.[/p][p]I was able to draw upon my personal knowledge of unexpected loss which I experienced at 16 when my father died suddenly of heart failure. As a young man, just starting out in the world, losing my role model left me with a thorough understanding of bereavement, suffering and loss and what can help.[/p][p]Upon hearing that Kelly HEWITT, the daughter of my very good friend in John, had chosen to end her life, I found myself remember many of the families that I had dealt with over the years and thought about the impact my time with them may have had.[/p][p]When John first suggested the idea of completing a cycle ride from John O’Groats to Lands End in order to raise awareness and funds in Kelly’s memory I had no hesitation in volunteering.
