My story

[p]We found out in August 2016 that our nephew Archie had been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a shocking and heart breaking diagnosis that turned the family upside down.[/p][p]Duchenne is a very rare, genetic life limiting disease which currently has no treatment or cure and will rob Archie of his mobility & steal him of his ability to live ‘normally’. Boys with DMD are often in a wheelchair in their early teens, lose the ability to use their arms by their 20s and basic tasks like eating, dressing and simply breathing become a struggle. It is rare for boys with the condition to live into their 30s.[/p][p]Beccy and Alex, Archie’s parents have struggled over the past 2 years and through the support of family, friends and Duchenne UK they have been able to lead as normal a life as possible.[/p][p]Alice and I had our twins boys 1 year ago and this really brought home for us the anguish that a diagnosis must bring with it. As such we are determined to support Beccy & Alex and we have committed to help raise as much money for Duchenne UK as possible.[/p][p]To start this fundraising we are taking part in the Duchenne Dash 2019. A 300 mile bike ride from London to Paris completed in 24 hours. Alex will also be cycling with his brother and Beccy’s other sisters Libby & Charlie along with their other halves coming along to support also.[/p][p]Once upon a time at school this may not have been as difficult as I know it is going to be. The last 10 years haven’t been my most active, just the thought of sitting on a bike saddle for 24 hours brings tears to my eyes. Alice will be showing just how strong she is completing this just 18 months after having our twins.[/p][p]Duchenne UK is a lean, ambitious and highly focused charity. Its vision is clear: to fund and accelerate treatments and find a cure for DMD to beat this disease in a decade. It is committed to saving THIS generation of boys with Duchenne. Duchenne UK are seeing positive results from the research they are funding, giving us huge hope for Archie. All money you donate goes straight to this cause. Please help us to fund research into treatment for this devastating condition.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Please have a look at the attached links and dig deep to support us in this challenge and the crucial work Duchenne UK are doing.[/p][p][br][/p][p]For more information go to: [/p][p] and video that tells you a little more: YouTube[/p][p]Archie’s March[/p][p]#WorldsStrongestBoys[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
