My story

[vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/18CfSfcPkQk?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p][br][/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/tFrHxDrvFJY?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo][p]Captain Tom united the nation and gave hope when it was needed most. He gave me hope.. [/p][p]The Captain Tom Foundation works with partner charities who make an incredible difference to so many people’s lives. If you wish to donate to my page, you’ll be helping to support and expand vital work in helping these charities combat issues like isolation, loneliness bereavement and mental health difficulties.[/p][p]Captain Tom is an inspiration to so many people across our nation I started watching him on tv, walking laps around his garden at home and then hearing stories of how it was helping so many to get outside and walk, while watching his amazing fundraising efforts grow for NHS charities. I often wished I could join in and be apart of this great walk with the nation but having had a stroke 2 years ago the daily impact it has on me physically and mentally is immense. On top of that I have debilitating anxiety/agoraphobia that has worsened due to the covid pandemic and a recent loss brought much sadness and pain in September. Getting out daily walking did not seem at all possible or anything I could achieve - my Fitbit watch would rarely hit 500-1000 steps a day.[/p][p]So, I accepted the idea I wasn't going to be a marathon runner or a fast walker, neither a massive fund raiser but what did happen from following Captain Tom's story was that it planted a tiny seed of hope... my hope was to be able get up/dressed and be able go for a walk with my best friend, my loyal companion, my dog Coco . [/p][p]Here's to the part that challenges "I can't" as that little seed of hope started to grow I asked myself "can I? " I just needed keep going and commit to getting out and walk most days, and that's exactly what I have done and been doing. Then today (30th December) I pondered the idea of officially "Walking with Tom" I uploaded a photo to my page of my biggest fan (Coco)....and I have a plan and I can.[/p][p]On 1st January 2021 and through out each day of the month I intend to walk 3 and a bit miles (3.3) each morning. This will be a push both in body and mind with a goal of 100 miles to be achieved on the 31st January. I will upload my walk/steps/miles as I go along during the month. I set my target amount to raise at £100 as Captain Tom walked set about to raising £1000 for NHS charities walking 100 laps of the garden at his home. [/p][p]"Because one step has the power to inspire one hundred more" [/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p] [/p]
