My story

[p]Frimley Park Hospital and Southampton University Hospital have saved my life on numerous occasions and I would like to say thank you by raising some money for the wards which have done so much for me![/p][p][br][/p][p]My story at Frimley began in 2016, when after finding a lump in my neck, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, shortly after finding out I was pregnant with my second baby. Unfortunately my initial treatment didn’t work as hoped but the team at Frimley cared for me throughout my chemotherapy and pregnancy and our beautiful Kezia Hope Ralph was born safely in November 2016. [/p][p][br][/p][p]I went on to have much more treatment under the care of the wonderful haematology team as well as being looked after there with various bouts of pneumonia, flu and gastroenteritis. Earlier this year I spent seven weeks at Frimley under the incredible ICU team who somehow kept me alive while my body was being assaulted by fungal pneumonia, a flu virus and what they now think may have been coronavirus. [/p][p][br][/p][p]When my cancer became complicated in 2017 I was referred to Southampton University Hospital where I’ve since spent months of my life on ward C6, being treated by the simply amazing, dedicated transplant team.[/p][p][br][/p][p]When I woke up in ICU in February from my medically-induced coma I couldn’t breathe independently, eat, drink, talk or even move my legs at all. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Since then I’ve been rehabilitating, initially in hospital and then at my lovely Mum and Dad’s house, gradually getting mobile and strong! I’m missing my absolute rock of a husband John, my Ben who is six and Kezzie who’s now three, like absolute mad but hopefully putting this time to good use.[/p][p][br][/p][p]If you are able I would love you to sponsor me to walk 5000 steps or cycle 10k on the exercise bike for ten days (over twelve days as I figure I may need a couple of days to regroup within this time - some days are still quite hard).[/p][p][br][/p][p]I plan to finish my challenge on 14th June, which marks my second re-birthday. This is two years since a very important life-saving event without which I certainly wouldn’t be here - my stem cell transplant, when an anonymous donor gave me a new immune system by way of his stem cells.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Less than three months ago I was completely dependent on medical staff and machinery to perform every every function - so this represents a huge challenge for me and is testament to both hospitals for getting me this far. Any words of encouragement or sponsorship if you can would be very much appreciated! [/p]
