My story

[p]Hi I'm Chris![/p][p]You've probably seen, and will see, plenty of people asking for donations for other wonderful purposes - though this is my story. [/p][p]Why am I doing this? To put it simply I couldn't not! A bunch of my passions have synchronised and collided perfectly as you'll see. [/p][p]Firstly, it's been a long set ambition, of mine, to run a marathon and in particular the London Marathon. In fact, I've missed out on a successful ballot of running the marathon 9 years straight - which I'm told is quite unfortunate - so it's fair to say I'm keen to experience this fantastic opportunity. [/p][p]Secondly, why Chance To Shine charity? Well, simple put it's a wonderful charity which is close to my heart (yeah yeah 'that's what you're supposed to say') though actually I'm so lucky to know this first hand. I'm fortunate to have a profession in cricket development and understand the capability of this charity by delivering their brilliant cricket programmes - amongst other moments - to children. Their mantra - Spreading The Power Of Cricket resonates strongly with me. [/p][p]Finally, you could say 'Cricket - it's just a sport isn't it?'. For me, having been involved playing and coaching for more than 20 years, it's so so so much more... It promotes Mental, Social and Physical wellbeing greatly and let's be honest we could all do with a higher dose of this at these challenging times - especially children. It provides key encouragement attributes in teamwork, leadership, social skills, physical fitness, cognitive skills and respect to name a few. [/p][p]Just so you know - I'm treating this as if it's my one and only shot at this awesome challenge - so, in the inspirational words of Dean Karnazes β€œRun when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up.” [/p][p]Thanks so much for reading and wish me luck![/p][p]Chris. [/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE (18th April):[/p][p]With 6 months until race day (3rd October) my training commenced on 3rd April! [/p][p]To keep my training mojo on the go go, and related to cricket, I've set a challenge to run 675km (420 miles) between now and race day. That's the driving distance to all Cornwall Cricket League Clubs! (This may sound familiar with my Virtual Cycle last year!? -https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/chrisanderson1984) [/p][p]This is the equivalent distance to driving from Somerset CC to Headingly (via Lords / Edgbaston & Old Trafford!) and over 100kms per month - in fact that's roughly a 10km every 3 days (gulp!). [/p][p]Currently I'm 31.61km into my training. This included a gruelling 10km Tough Runner in Exeter yesterday morning (followed by a cricket match!) I've started, my training distance, starting from my home club Tideford cricket club and heading West. Hopefully I can do the full loop by Marathon day! You can see my route here (https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edit...) Google Maps made me split them into 8 legs!? I'll provide a more detailed breakdown soon though so far I've ran to Menheniot/Looe Cricket Club, Liskeard Cricket Club & Duloe Cricket Club. Now making my way towards St Neot Cricket Club![/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE (16th May):[/p][p]50km training complete! I've now whizzed passed St Neot Taveners CC and just 3km from Boconnoc CC![/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE (23rd July):[/p][p]After a month of being unable to run between middle of June to middle of July, due to a combination of injury (cricket related!) and self isolation 'pingdemic' I'm back on with my training again! So my training distance is currently at 115km (561km to go in 7 weeks!). Maybe a challenge out of reach now though I'll keep trying! Since the last update I've 'virtually' ran past, Boconnoc CC, Lanhydrock CC, St Blazey CC, St Austell CC, Bugle CC, Roche CC, Foxhole CC, St Stephen CC, and just a few km's from Gorran CC! [/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE (8th August): [/p][p]Ok so it's been quite a week of training on the beautiful Isle Of Wight! I amassed almost 64km (just under 40 miles) in 6 days - early mornings not to disturb important family time! One of my runs included a bucket list challenge to run from Freshwater Bay to the Needles - rather strong headwind up hills was ruddy tough (you can see that in the video) - but totally worth it! Other runs included getting completely lost and getting cosy with cows and a rather grumpy farmer... all good fun! [/p][p]My current training distance (since 3rd April) is now at a slightly more healthier looking @225.72km though still a frightening 450.58km to go in just 56 days! That means my challenge is now to run 8km everyday until the big day on October 3rd. To help me remain focussed and keep momentum I've now signed up for the Plymouth Ocean Half Marathon on 5th September! [/p][p]As a reminder my total training distance challenge, before the big day on October 3rd, is to virtually reach all Cornwall Cricket League Clubs starting from my home club Tideford cricket club. [/p][p]I'm currently 225.72km in and I've now virtually passed through Gorran Cricket Club, Veryan Cricket Club, Gerrans Cricket Club, Grampound Road Cricket Club, Ladock Cricket Club, St Erme Cricket Club, Truro Cricket Club, Perranaworthal Cricket Club, Sthians Cricket Club, Wendron Cricket Club, St Gluvias Cricket Club, Falmouth Cricket Club, Mawnan Cricket Club and just short of Constantine Cricket Club![/p][p]This takes me close to the the end of Leg 3 (out of 8). Check out the route map: (https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edit...) [/p][p][br][/p][p]UPDATE (10th August):[/p][p]Learning to Juggle - inspired by Dynamos Cricketers![/p][p]This is my journey of achieving a skill that I'd longed for. It took a young Dynamo Cricketer to kick start me into action. Brilliantly supported by all of the Dynamos! [/p][p]https://youtu.be/0_-qIX22S9I[/p][p] [/p][p]UPDATE (1st September):[/p][p]August has been great in terms of training distance! Though not so great on the body. I've amassed a hefty 235.18km (146 miles!) taking 21 hours 6 minutes and 34 seconds during the course of the month. [/p][p]My outings have included post cricket match runs, pre and post cricket holiday camp runs and pre Dynamos Intros Cricket runs too! (See how I like to keep it cricket themed :-)) I've also managed a few 1/2 marathon distances too - which will come in handy for this Sunday's Britain's Ocean City Half Marathon in Plymouth. [/p][p]My current training distance (since 3rd April) is now at a much healthier looking @394.04km though still a chunky 282.26km to go in just 33 days! That means my challenge 'run rate' has increased to 8.5km everyday until the big day on October 3rd. [/p][p]As a reminder my total training distance challenge, before the big day on October 3rd, is to virtually reach all Cornwall Cricket League Clubs starting from my home club Tideford cricket club.[/p][p]I'm currently 394.04km in and I've now virtually passed through Constantine Cricket Club, Mullion Cricket Club, Helston Cricket Club, @Porthlevan Cricket Club, Rosudgeon Cricket Club, Goldsithney Cricket Ground, Ludgvan Cricket Club, Gulval Cricket Club, Penzance Cricket, Paul Cricket Club, St. Buryan Softball Cricket, St Just Cricket Club, St Ives Cricket Club, Hayle Cricket Club, Leedstown Cricket Club, Praze Cricket Club, Barripper Cricket Club, Crofty Holman Cricket Club, Camborne Cricket Club, Beacon Cricket Club, Troon Cricket Club, Redruth Cricket Club, @St Day & Carharrack Cricket Club, Mount Ambrose Cricket Club.[/p][p]This takes me midway through Leg 6 (out of 8 ). Check out the route map (https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edit...)[/p][p]As always any donations to help me raise funds for the fantastic cricket charity Chance To Shine would be greatly appreciated!
