My story

[p]Covid has brought many challenges to us all, and even more so to some of the many charities that help support those less fortunate than ourselves. If you are reading this then a big thank you for taking the time to do so, and now that you’ve opened the page I’m going to make a big ask of you, and that is to ask that you donate whatever you feel is appropriate and you can afford, to a charity that I have supported for the last 10 years, the William Waites Memorial Trust [/p][p]The Trust is a registered charity set up in 1998, and still run by, the Waites family in celebration of their son William who was tragically killed when travelling Central America. Its sole mission, and it’s been hugely successful in this over the last 10 years, is to help the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime and violence, and fulfil their potential. This is mainly achieved by supporting charities that engage young people through the mediums of sports, arts and education.[/p][p]The charity raises nearly all its funds through one major event each year, a challenging cycle ride that completes the full Tour de France route, exactly as the race does! and one week ahead of the professionals That’s an average of 110 miles every day, for three weeks with two rest days, although rest days are spent sorting bikes and catching up on the washing of kit! Sadly however, the event has now had to be cancelled for the second year in a row, this would have been my third year raising funds for disadvantaged youngsters having completed the challenge in 2012 and 2017. [/p][p]To help support the charity during this Covid period when its income has been effectively stopped, and its support for disadvantaged youngsters is arguably even more essential, I have decided to complete a separate challenge of riding from John O Groats to Lands End over ten days, that will be an average of just under 100 miles a day for ten days in a row, into the prevailing winds and hoping that it stays dry! This challenge is being wholly funded by me and two other riders who are also riding for charity, we will be starting the ride on Monday 28th June and you will be able to read my (interesting!🤞) daily updates on [/p][p]Now please don’t close the page before you’ve donated whatever you feel you can afford! and as we are paying for this trip ourselves you can be confident every penny that you donate will end up helping to try and keep a youngster away from a potential life of crime or violence.[/p][p]If you would like any more information on our challenge or you would like to support the charity yourself, then please do contact me. If you are about to donate then a huge thank you from me and some unknown youngster whose life you may have just improved.[/p][p]Chris[/p]
