My story

[p]Le Tour De Stafford is back for round VIII – Saturday 9th February 2019[/p][p]A group of guys and girls touring their way around Stafford’s local drinking establishments in a bid to raise money for Charity...but with a twist!![/p][p][br][/p][p]Rather than being on cycles, our team will be scooting and drinking their way round Stafford dressed in hi-vis lycra, helmets on micro scooters or children’s bikes. We encourage everyone and anyone to get involved and join us on the day for a drink, a chat or to take part in the whole tour. [/p][p]This year our LTDS team will be scooting their way through the streets (and pubs) of Stafford to raise funds for the UMNM Trust Charity, specifically the work they do for the Critical Care Unit at Royal Stoke Hospital.[/p][p] [/p][p]Earlier this year, Darren, the uncle of a LTDS committee member’s wife, was admitted to Stoke Royal Hospital where his condition quickly deteriorated and he was moved to the Critical Care Unit where he was placed into an induced coma and received lifesaving treatment. Once out of the coma, Darren remained on the Critical Care Unit for a few further months, before then being moved to the respiratory unit within Stoke Hospital where he continues his recovery. The service, and attentive care each nurse provided Darren and his family was fantastic, and without them he may not be with us today.[/p][p] [/p][p]Unfortunately, on the Critical Care Unit there is limited access to natural light, and with majority of patients being bed bound many experience episodes of delirium. LTDS are proud this year to work with UMNM Trust Charity to support them in raising funds to fit digital ceiling tiles within the Critical Care Unit at Royal Stoke Hospital. Instead of lying in a bed, staring at a white ceiling, these tiles will allow patients to view moving images of the outside sky with sun rises and sun sets to help with normalising their body clock, helping to reduce the experience of delirium and aid with recovery.[/p]
