My story

[p]Guide Dogs, and in particular Lassie, have made a massive difference to my family's life. My wife Anica is registered blind. Lassie is Anica's first guide dog and it's amazing how much more independent and confident she is with Lassie. Lassie is with Anica almost all the time, she must have gone to more lectures than an average undergrad (Anica being a lecturer), she happily travels to wherever Anica needs to go, she's certainly much better at weaving through crowds in London or elsewhere than me and never fails to fill a room with positivity. On top of that, being the dog lover I am, I must admit I enjoy being greeted by the forever wagging tail after a hard day at work when she's off duty.[/p][p]I would never have imagined that a guide dog costs £63,000 over its lifetime, all of which is funded by Guide Dogs. While Anica is already fundraising for Guide Dogs and giving talks, I would like to join her in giving back. That's why, this year, I am tackling the 100 miles through London and Surrey fundraising for Guide Dogs. Every bit of support is greatly appreciated - it's much needed and will help Guide Dogs give that independence and joy to more blind or visually impaired people.[/p][p]It's now clear that the event won't take place, but I will still ride 100 miles virtually on the roller in the garden. It's not going to be the same, but at least I'll get my 100 miles in and keep my promise. Hopefully next year, I'll be able to do the real thing![/p]
