My story

[p]A word from Christa:[/p][p]Hi all :-)[/p][p]Mental wellbeing has been an important topic in varying degrees for all of us and those we are connected with. The current world events have perhaps brought it to the forefronts of peoples' minds even more so. Many of you will know that I have had my own battle with mental ill-health and appreciate the effect it has on the people around you.[/p][p]As a member of my firm's CSR committee, I am pleased to be able to support our chosen charity, The Charlie Waller Memorial Trust, with this slightly mad fundraising venture. The Trust was set up in 1997 in memory of Charlie Waller, a young man who took his own life whilst suffering from depression. Shortly after his death, his family founded the Trust in order to educate young people on the importance of staying mentally well and how to do so. [/p][p]Sadly, many charities have been hit hard during lockdown. It is for that reason and as part of my own journey to recovery that my friend Louise and I will be cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats in August. (To ensure we observe social distancing and lockdown measures in place at the time, we will, if needed, postpone part or all of our journey.)[/p][p]A word from Lou:[/p][p]I have seen far too many of my friends suffer from the devastating effects of mental illness. It can affect any of us at any time, with even the most talented, resilient and capable not knowing how to seek out the help that they need. I have seen first-hand how important it is for people to be aware of mental health and how much difference the right support can make. [/p][p]I believe that mental health education is vital, not just for those suffering, but for the friends and families of those affected. The CWMT offers that education and support and I'm very excited to be able to help raise money for such an amazing charity![/p][p]Our aim:[/p][p]Yes - we are cycling approximately 1000 miles in two weeks, not just because we love cycling, but to raise as much awareness of the importance of mental health as possible. [/p][p]Please help us raise our target of £2000 for 1000 miles for CWMT - all donations will be gratefully received![/p][p]You will be able to track our training progress, progress on the ride and all the fun, beautiful and, let's face it, at times painful moments on Strava and through social media.[/p][p]Thank you for your support.[/p]
