My story

[p]My daughter – Harri – has and is challenged by her mental health. It doesn’t mean she can’t succeed and do good and great things; it’s not a badge or an award; it’s debilitating and something she confronts; it is and always will be there. [/p][p][br][/p][p]The horrors of the past few years - the anxiety, the intercepted overdoses, the panic attacks, the anorexia - are way way beyond anything I have faced in my life, work or otherwise. Far beyond. But she is still here and fighting through. Though she is still doing it every day - the fighting. It doesn’t get easier. It doesn’t get better - maybe, hopefully more manageable. It is the very real indomitability of the human spirit. The same is true of all those who speak (or don’t or can’t or maybe are not yet able to) of their challenges. And the support Harri has had from the charity Young Minds is fundamental in enabling her to do this. Its like the comradeship and support that exists in my Navy life but possibly even stronger. The value is literally her life - its why she is still here. Simples. Most of all now she is able to speak out about her experiences - the tyranny and stigma of mental health. I so hope it makes other people have a little hope; says to others this is real - its not a reality TV show; its not made up. It is foul and beastly. Says you can still achieve and do great things big and small. I try my best to support and help and offer a parental view as all carers and parents do; but only those who are the victims really know what its like and its important to listen to them.[/p][p] [/p][p]So here am I am - at Lands End with a bike heading to John O’Groats. I am not sure how long this will take. I am not entirely sure whether its a good idea - I am older and not as fit as I would like to think I am. If I’m honest I am “training as I go”. Its for a stupendous cause so here goes and I hope I can raise some money for all those who suffer in silence and who Young Minds are the voice and the charity who will help them realise their potential which is all of our futures.[/p]
