My story

[p]Mental health is an area that has fascinated and been important to me since I was around 13/14 years old. Once I started to learn more about it at school and university, I've noticed people deal with their mental health in isolation a lot of the time, with only few people to support, and even some who feel ashamed and have not spoken to anyone about what they deal with, myself included. The amount of people close to me who have suffered but haven't raised their voice or felt comfortable getting the help they need is something that really troubles me, so I'm partly doing this on behalf of them, to hopefully keep awareness going and stigma at bay so that in our future, no one will feel uncomfortable saying that they suffer from depression or anxiety or any mental health difficulty. Although stigma against mental health is improving, I do think there is still a long way to go. That's why I fully believe not only raising money, but raising awareness in every sector of the community is an important thing to do.[/p][p]I've had the absolute privilege of being in a place to be able to aid people with their mental health difficulties for the last two and a half years now; the last year and a half with the charity North Kent Mind. The work North Kent Mind do is absolutely fantastic, and ranges so widely that if I were to type it all, I would have completed the Tough Mudder event already! North Kent Mind are a charity that is very important in the local community, and provides so much help for so many people, that I'm proud to be able to work for them and to raise money for them.[/p][p]The reason I have chosen Tough Mudder 5k is because it is one of the most challenging things I've heard of. It involves tackling 13 obstacles across a 5k distance, which is going to take a lot of preparation and hard work from me if I want to be able to complete it![/p][p]My initial aim is to raise £250.00. However, I'm really hoping to be able to keep upping that target with all of your help! Hopefully raising this much will be able to help train people in the local community to aid with people's mental health difficulties - the more people we have with the skills to help, the more people could be helped in the long run.[/p][p]Thanks for reading this, and please keep spreading awareness for mental health issues! :)[/p]
