My story

[p]In the week of our 80th anniversary, we will again be donning our walking shoes, digging out our raincoats (just in case!) and walking, all to raise funds to help local people! [/p][p]We're taking part in the 2019 Chichester Legal Walk on September 11th - walking 10km around beautiful Chichester, along with other local Citizens Advice services and several local law firms. So far our team consists of Clare Mannsaker, Laura Jenkins, Tony Bevis, Dipesh Palana and Oliver Thring, with more to join us in the coming weeks. [/p][p]Why are we doing this? [/p][p]For the last 80 years - our first offices were set up in 1939 - we have been helping people to find a way forward, and to tackle problems they are facing. We also campaign against policies and practices that are unfair; we help to change the bigger picture as well as changing the lives of local people every day, and making a difference to the community.[/p][p]We offer free, confidential, impartial advice on problems people face. We work from 16 locations in the Adur and Worthing, Mid Sussex, Horsham and Crawley areas, and people can reach us in person, on the phone, by web chat and by email. We helped more than 34,000 local people last year, to:[/p][p]apply for benefits they didn't even know they were eligible for, and support them to make their claims, for example our new Universal Credit: Help to Claim service[/p][p]tackle debt, by helping people to budget and prioritise payments, apply for grants - and we deal with bailiffs [/p][p]help people to stay in their homes when they're threatened with eviction[/p][p]challenge discrimination in the workplace, and other problems at work[/p][p]support people who are worried they've been targeted by scammers[/p][p]And so much more, including immigration, domestic abuse, consumer issues and discrimination.[/p][p]We are an independent registered charity. In the challenging funding environment donations can really help us to continue supporting local people and communities - and we expect demand for our service to continue increasing.[/p][p]If you would like to sponsor us, and help make a real difference to local people, please click the red 'donate' button. We are grateful for any donation you can give, large or small. It's appreciated by all of us.[/p][p]All funds received by London Legal Support Trust (the walk organisers) via this page will be passed to us without deduction.[/p][p]THANK YOU so much for your support, which will really spur us on, and make a huge difference to people in West Sussex![/p][p]From all the team at Citizens Advice in West Sussex (North, South, East)[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
