My story

[p]Update ** A VERY sincere thank you to all of you who have been so generous in sponsoring me so far. I am not too far off the target and any further donations would be welcome. There is a lot happening in the world right now and these are uncertain times, even more so for families with a child battling cancer. Your support of CCLG is much appreciated **[/p][p]Back in November, I committed to taking part in the first ever running of the Gaucho Derby, a 500km multi horse race across the remote Patagonian Andes. The next 4 months were a hectic mix of normal everyday life plus fundraising, assembling expedition kit and trying to get fit, with lots of miserable running in the wettest winter for years. I left feeling not exactly prepared, but ready for an adventure, and it was certainly that! [/p][p]I am, frankly, just delighted to have made through to the finish line one piece. Being placed 2nd was definitely the icing on the cake. It was a privilege to ride through one of the most remote, beautiful, but at times utterly brutal places on earth. The horses were foot sure and carried me up, down and through terrain I would never have believed a horse could cross and my fellow competitors were a great bunch of fun, brave and inspiring people. There were challenges at every turn including deathly bogs, scree slopes, dealing with a pack horse, navigating through difficult mountains and camping out. It was unpredictable at times and a major helicopter medical evacuation of 4 riders on day 3 turned a lot of the previously planned race format on its head, but I've had the experience of my life and have gained utmost respect for Gaucho's; they are incredible horseman.[/p][p]Thank you for your interest and support[/p][p]Clare[/p]
