My story

[p]Between 6th -14th September 2019 I will be one of ten cyclists taking the challenging 500 kilometre ride from Lusaka to Victoria Falls in Zambia, Africa. [/p][p]I’ll be riding for Build It International, a charity close to my heart. Build It seeks to create opportunities for young people and their communities in Zambia through skills training, work experience and essential community building projects. They enable hundreds of young, unemployed people to learn essential building skills, and at the same time help to build vital schools and clinics for thousands of children.[/p][p] The challenging ride will take us to the ‘Centre of Excellence’, the hub for construction skills training, small business development and sustainable building techniques. We will also be visiting one of the community schools, seeing first hand the success of Build Its work.[/p][p]I have already experienced first-hand just how much of a positive impact Build It has. I was lucky enough to visit Zambia with Build It in 2014 where I helped to build the Kabaka Primary School, where we transformed a make shift class room made of sticks & grass into a comfortable, safe & secure building with 3 classrooms, a house for teachers, sanitation facility and an orchard. [/p][p]5 years on, the presence of the school has created a buzzing central hub where the whole community benefits from the facilities & both children & adults continue to learn & develop. [/p][p]Without sounding cliché, it was the best thing I have ever done. These people live on less than 80p a day, but are the happiest, most grateful people I have ever met. It was truly a life changing experience![/p][p][img][/img]I will be extremely grateful for any amount that you could donate, no mater how big or small, it will all help towards Build It Internationals fantastic projects and building brighter futures for the Zambian communities.
