My story

[p]If you would like to sponsor the SWAY100 team taking part in the 3 day challenge, but don't know which member of the team to sponsor - then this page is for you! This is a general sponsorship page for anyone wishing to donate to the two causes - Unseen UK and Duchenne UK without having to sponsor an individual. [/p][p]SWAY100 is 3 day, 100 mile run/jog/walk the length of The Samaritan's Way from Lynton in North Devon to the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol - about 33.3 miles or so a day over the Bank Holiday weekend 4th - 6th May 2019.[/p][p]Unseen is the outgoing charity partner of Clarke Willmott Bristol office and Duchenne is the incoming charity partner.[/p][p]Unseen are instrumental in combatting human trafficking, slavery, servitude and forced labour. They believe they can work towards a world without slavery by concentrating their efforts on three main areas: supporting, equipping and influencing. Working in partnership with communities, businesses, governments and other organisations they hope to stamp out slavery for good. Until then, they are here to offer victims safety, hope and the choice they deserve.[/p][p]Duchenne are leading the research into the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. DMD is the most common fatal genetic disease diagnosed in childhood. The disease almost always affects boys, and they tend to be diagnosed before the age of five. DMD is classified as a rare disease. There are around 2,500 patients in the UK and an estimated 300,000 sufferers worldwide.[/p][p]DMD Hubs provides training, mentoring and resources to sites to help them meet industry requirements for clinical trials. This is one of the main ways that the charity will increase clinical trial capacity. In the South West, Bristol and Plymouth are two hubs of the South West Neuromuscular Operational Delivery Network (SWNODN) which provides care to over 6,000 adults and children with various neuromuscular conditions. The Bristol hub is housed within the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.[/p][p][i]Duchenne UK was chosen in response to the devastating news that our colleague Oliver Smedley’s son has been diagnosed with DMD. We have all been in awe of the Smedley family’s resilience in the face of this adversity and their support for Duchenne UK, which is committed to do all that it can to help those who are affected by this awful condition.
