My story

[p]Cliff Sturt is raising money for the Royal British Legion.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Like so many other charities, as a consequence of the Covid-19 restrictions this year the Royal British Legion has not gained the level of support it usually does. Cliff is therefore asking for your help to top-up their funds. In support of this appeal Cliff will take part in the iconic Bondi to Bronte 2.2km open sea swim which will take place sometime in the next eight days. The exact day will be decided by the sea conditions at Bondi and Bronte. As there is the small problem of Cliff not being able to travel to Australia at present (their airspace is effectively closed and is expected to remain so until this time next year !), Cliff will be swimming in a UK pool (completing approx. 140 lengths). Given that is Summer there but Winter here, it will be an indoor pool ![/p][p][/p][p]Cliff’s elder daughter, Laura, is a Patrol Captain at Bronte Surf Life Saving Club (in fact, chosen as Captain of the year in 2019) and it is that Club which organises the annual Bondi to Bronte swim. Part of each entry fee goes to support The Kids' Cancer Project in Australia. Since 2013 these entry fee donations have raised over $272,000 to help children with cancer. This year the event is going “virtual” so as to avoid the C-19 risk of a large number of competitors gathering together. Thus, the competitors have been asked to complete the 2.2km distance individually or in small groups locally; be it in the sea, a river, a lake or a pool. The idea is for Cliff & Laura to commence the swim at the same time, although you can be certain that Laura will finish the swim before her father does ![/p]
