My story

[p]Wealth inequality is one of the world's most significant problems that facilitates abuses from the everyday ill treatment or scant regard for others, through to systematic murder, rape and servitude. We all witness poverty every day but the darkest stories are out of sight. Action Aid is a great cause that works to shine a light on this and assist people globally. [/p][p]I know a lot of people choose their charities to support because they have personal experience of say, losing a loved one to cancer or having a family member suffer blindness but I do not feel I need to be related to or be a close friend of a girl in Sudan who suffers daily torture to support the work this charity does. I hope you feel the same and help me in my goal to raise money for this cause. [/p][p]I aim to do a number of things this year to raise money and will update this page from time to time as new ideas and events are organised. The first challenge is a 100 mile bike ride that is a lot tougher than it sounds so please support me with a few quid![/p][p]This is what Action Aid themselves say about their purpose:[/p][p]Poverty is complex. It’s more than a lack of money. It’s also a lack of choice and power. For women and girls, poverty means having fewer opportunities than men and boys. In the world’s poorest places this means living on the margins of society, often facing discrimination, exploitation and violence.[/p][p]From the moment they’re born, many girls are seen and treated as less than boys. Girls are less likely to go to school than their brothers, and millions of girls worldwide are married as children, often to much older men.1[/p][p]All over the world women and girls have less social, economic and political power, which can lead to their human rights being denied. Gender inequality is the root cause of women’s rights abuses. ActionAid supports women and girls to claim their rights. [/p]
